This week, SVLG held an exclusive briefing on the 2026 Stanford HAI AI Index report with co-hosts at Microsoft and the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI). The event brought together industry leaders, researchers, and member companies to analyze the forces shaping the future of artificial intelligence.

Microsoft shared key insights into its Responsible AI program, demonstrating how the industry is actively implementing ethical guardrails, and Stanford presented the report, which sparked a vital discussion on the latest trends in AI development, economic impacts, and regulatory shifts.

SVLG member Microsoft recently released its U.S. AI Diffusion Report, offering new insights into how AI adoption is taking shape across communities nationwide.

Key findings include:
- Adoption is accelerating, but not evenly distributed.
- There’s a growing gap between urban and rural communities, along with broader regional differences.
- In some areas, AI is already shaping how people work, learn, and grow local economies—while in others, progress remains slower.

SVLG member Pacific Gas and Electric Company is accepting applications for its Better Together Nature Positive Innovation Grant program.

Through the PG&E Foundation, $500,000 in funding will support innovative projects focused on air quality, land and water stewardship across Northern and Central California. Five regional grants of $100,000 each will help nonprofits, educational institutions, tribal governments, and public agencies advance solutions that strengthen environmental resilience and support local communities.

SVLG and RXN recently released a new report that found 81% of California small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) say digital tools play a key role in their business’s success. The findings come during Small Business Month as California lawmakers consider the COMPETE Act (AB 1776), legislation that could break apart many of the tools valued by small business and which could negatively impact the investment and growth underpinning California’s dynamic innovation ecosystem.
