The Beginning

Back in 2005, founders Chris and Lydia felt an urgent need to help disabled orphans in China. Not long after, they uprooted their family from a comfortable life in America and journeyed to Nanning, Guangxi, China for what should have been only one year. Life was difficult in Nanning and there were many things to get used to, but their family became inspired by how genuine and kind-h

earted the orphans were and they slowly became close friends. The year passed and it was time for them to move back to America. Feeling their work was unfinished and unable to leave their newfound friends behind, they decided to move back to Nanning and continue working with orphans. Their experiences with the disabled orphans taught them that disabled people and orphans had very few opportunities in China, making it difficult for them people to realize their true potential. But their experiences also taught them that the neglected few were among “the most capable,” only needing to be given a chance and to be accepted. Thus, the Silver Lining Foundation was founded. Our Present

The Silver Lining Foundation began as a tiny little workshop to provide employment opportunities for disabled people. We started with only three people and had no idea what we were doing, but we all shared a common goal. We wanted to help people, not because they were helpless, but because they were capable human beings who just needed someone to believe in them. And with that purpose in mind, we followed our hearts and just kept moving forward. Today, our tiny little workshop has grown into something we never could have imagined. It’s crazy to think that our efforts have expanded to include: opening up an orphanage, awarding educational sponsorships, providing rehabilitation sponsorships, and creating an emergency medical fund in just a few short years! It has definitely been tough on all of us, but we will continue to do our best to offer love and support to those in need. Our Future

We do not know where the future will take us, but we look forward to reaching out and helping more people. We feel truly blessed and eternally grateful for all the love and support we have received. Now 30 strong, we will continue to dedicate ourselves to helping people whenever possible. We feel that if there are those in need of help, we will lend a helping hand, with passion and compassion.

“Our love can change their lives.” – Silver Lining

🌟 Family Event 2026 | Pyin Oo Lwin, Myanmar

Laughter, games, creativity, and community filled this year’s Family Event at Family Village in Pyin Oo Lwin, Myanmar.

Children enjoyed face painting, drawing activities, team games, and a joyful BBQ evening shared with caregivers, teachers, leaders, supporters, and the wider community. More than just a fun event, the day created meaningful moments of connection, encouragement, and belonging for everyone involved.

At Silver Lining Missions, we believe children grow best when they are surrounded by healthy relationships, safe environments, and caring communities. Events like this help create spaces where children can build joyful memories, express creativity, and experience the support of people who walk alongside them every day.

Family Village in Pyin Oo Lwin continues to be a place where children and families can grow in hope, community, and care together. 💛

For many years, Haiwei and her mother walked a long and challenging journey together.

Before they found Silver Lining Missions, her mother carried her on her back, traveling by bus to attend rehabilitation sessions.

Even after joining us, their journey continued — with patience, care, and steady progress over 12 years.

Today, things look different.

Haiwei can now drive her electric wheelchair on her own, travel to the center independently, and return home by herself. She has even started cooking — something that brings her a deep sense of accomplishment.

When we visited them, we shared time together, went to the market, and enjoyed a warm meal lovingly prepared by her mother — a home filled with strength and care.

There was a time they almost gave up.
But today, they move forward with confidence.

Haiwei now hopes that other children can also one day go out, play, and live independently.

This is what long-term support can grow into — independence, confidence, and hope. 💛

Today, we celebrate the love, strength, and sacrifice of mothers everywhere. 💛

To all the mothers in our centers — thank you for your patience, kindness, and the countless ways you care for each child each day.

And to mothers around the world — thank you for giving life, nurturing with compassion, and holding your children close through every joy and challenge.

A mother’s love shapes lives in ways words can never fully capture.

Happy Mother’s Day 🌸

“Basketball is my only dream.”
— Gam Mu

When Gam Mu first came to Silver Lining Family Village, he was quiet, and his smile had almost faded.

With care, encouragement, and support over time, things slowly began to change.

Through the Dare to Dream program, he kept learning, training, and moving forward — from local competitions to bigger opportunities.

He was selected to represent Myanmar at the 14th ASEAN Schools Games, held in Brunei in November 2025, where youth athletes from across Southeast Asia came together to compete.

Our team had the chance to surprise him, cheer for him, and share this meaningful moment together.

“Now, I feel my dream is coming true… I am happy.”
— Gam Mu

This is what care, encouragement, and opportunity can grow into — confidence, hope, and a future that once felt far away. 💛

Spending a day together, as part of XiaoLei’s rehabilitation journey (Part 1)

This is Xiao Lei.

He is on the rehabilitation journey —
learning and growing, step by step.

Although the journey is difficult, one thing he shared stuck with us:

“I want to take care of my mom & dad.”

Recently, our team visited his home.

Together, we went to market together to buy ingredients to
prepare a meal.
Spending time together as a family and community.

Simple moments —
yet beautiful

Because growth is not only about progress.

It is also about
connection, responsibility,
and the people who matter most.

At Silver Lining Missions,
we walk alongside children and families
through moments just like these.

Every April, Myanmar welcomes the New Year with Thingyan — a time when families and communities come together to share joy and celebrate new beginnings.

This year, our children at the Silver Lining Missions Family Village in Myanmar spent Thingyan alongside their teachers and caregivers, sharing moments of laughter, play, and togetherness.

Through these simple moments — water play, shared laughter, and time spent together — children continue to grow within relationships that bring a sense of belonging and care.

At Silver Lining Missions, these everyday experiences are part of how children are supported to grow — not only through structured care, but through being part of a community where they are known and valued.

Wishing everyone a peaceful and joyful Myanmar New Year!

School holidays have a different rhythm.

Moments to learn in everyday ways.
Time to play.
Moments shared with others.

Across our communities, children are spending this break together playing games, learning new things, and simply being part of everyday life.

These moments are held within relationships that continue beyond the classroom.

Familiar faces.
Consistent care.
A space where children are known and welcomed.

At Silver Lining Missions, this is part of how children grow not only through structured learning, but through belonging, encouragement, and the quiet consistency of people who stay.

Poverty affects more than access to food or shelter.

For many children, it also limits access to education, safe spaces, and opportunities to grow with confidence.

At Silver Lining Missions, our community and youth centres provide more than basic assistance. Through learning support, mentorship, and safe environments, we provide opportunities for children to develop skills, confidence, and a sense of belonging within their own communities.

These programs are designed for long-term development — helping children not only meet daily needs, but also discover their potential.

Because supporting children is not only about survival.
It is about helping them grow.
