Silver Lining Missions provides family-based care, disability rehabilitation, education support, and poverty relief for vulnerable children across Myanmar, China, Vietnam, and Indonesia. Our Story

"The Beginning"

Silver Lining Missions began in 2005 when founders Chris and Lydia responded to a calling to serve vulnerable children in rural China. Leaving behind a comfortable life in California, they moved their family to Guangxi with a simple goal: to bring hope, care, and opportunity to children who had been overlooked by society. These children were not defined by their circumstances. They were full of potential, resilience, and dreams. What they needed was not pity, but love, opportunity, and people who believed in them. That belief became the foundation of Silver Lining Missions. "Our Journey"

What started as a small workshop providing vocational opportunities for individuals with disabilities soon grew into a broader mission of serving vulnerable children and families. Over the years, Silver Lining Missions has expanded to provide:

• Family-based care for orphans and vulnerable children
• Rehabilitation services for children with disabilities
• Education support and youth development programs
• Emergency medical assistance for children in crisis
• Poverty relief and community support initiatives

Today, Silver Lining Missions serves children and families across Myanmar, China, Vietnam, and Indonesia, helping them grow with dignity, hope, and opportunity. "Looking Ahead"

While our programs have grown, our mission remains unchanged. We believe lasting transformation happens through relationships, consistent care, and walking alongside children and families over time. Rather than offering temporary solutions, we invest in long-term growth that empowers children to thrive physically, emotionally, educationally, and socially. As we look toward the future, we remain committed to serving vulnerable children, strengthening families, and building communities where every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential. What if getting water was the first challenge of your day? 💧

For many families in this Yangon community, water is not something they can simply turn on.

Around 30 households share this water source, and when the supply is interrupted, families may have to find and pay for water elsewhere.

Sometimes, the interruption can last three or four days.

For these families, the day can begin with collecting water, carrying it home, and making sure there is enough for cooking, cleaning, and daily needs.

What may seem like a simple part of everyday life becomes a daily challenge when reliable water access is not guaranteed.

During our visit, we wanted to understand what this reality looks like — not from a distance, but by listening, observing, and spending time in the community.

This is only one part of the story.

Behind every number is a child, a family, and a story.

As of June 2026, 1,722 children are in the care and support of Silver Lining Missions across 12 centers in China, Myanmar, Vietnam and Indonesia.

Our work includes family-based care, rehabilitation and education, youth development, and support for children and families facing poverty and vulnerability.

From a child growing up in a Family Village to a child building confidence through rehabilitation, our goal is not simply to meet immediate needs — but to create opportunities for health, education, belonging, dignity and hope.

What happens when someone is given the confidence to try? 💛

At first, he wasn’t sure how much he could achieve.

But with encouragement from his teacher, something began to change — his confidence.

He stepped onto the field, took his shot, and discovered that he could do more than he expected.

Through a A Special Olympics-related inclusive sports event for athletes with disabilities experience, he participated in events including ball toss and curling, earned second place, met new people, had fun, and found joy in trying something new.

But the most meaningful achievement wasn’t the award.

It was the confidence that began to grow within.

At Silver Lining Missions, we believe children and young people deserve opportunities to participate, discover their strengths, build confidence, and feel that they belong.

Because sometimes, all someone needs is the opportunity — and someone beside them saying, “You can try.” 💛

Children learn to take responsibility, help one another, care for their shared home, and become more independent — while growing up surrounded by consistent care and guidance.

This is family-based care in everyday life: not just providing for children, but giving them a place where they can belong, participate, and grow.

Behind these homes are stories we need to understand.

During our first visit to an underserved community in Yangon, we met families and listened to the challenges they face every day.

Around 200 people share one small toilet, some homes are shared by 13–16 people, and families have no private shower space. Children also play around water with serious hygiene concerns.

This is only the beginning. We’ll be sharing more stories from this community soon. 🤍
