We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to making this event a success!

A huge thank you to all the doctors, healthcare professionals, volunteers, and organizers who generously dedicated their time, expertise, and service. Your compassion and commitment made a meaningful difference in the lives of many families in our community.

A special thank you to everyone who participated in the blood donation drive. Every donation has the potential to save lives, bring hope, and make a lasting impact. Every blood donor is truly a hero!

Texas Friends Hiking Group – 2026 Adventures

For the third consecutive year, the Texas Friends Hiking Group continued to bring together outdoor enthusiasts through challenging and memorable hiking experiences. With nearly 400 members, the group is free and open to all and has strong participation from VPA members, who regularly take part in its activities. The group is led by Venki Gowda of Houston, Vice President of the VPA South Chapter.

The group’s first major hike of 2026 took place on April 18 and 19 at the Grand Canyon, with approximately 75 participants hiking the South Kaibab and Bright Angel trails. The demanding route offered spectacular views of the inner canyon and the Colorado River while providing a significant test of endurance, preparation, and determination.

In August, the group traveled to Colorado for another major hiking expedition. A total of 36 hikers, including approximately 12 children, participated in attempts to summit five peaks exceeding 14,000 feet: Mt. Sherman, Mt. Democrat, Mt. Cameron, Mt. Lincoln, and Mt. Bross. Participants faced challenging conditions, including loose rock, high altitude, strong winds, and scree-covered terrain. For many, the experience marked their first successful summit of a 14,000-foot peak.

In addition to the physical accomplishments, both trips provided valuable opportunities to build friendships, strengthen community connections, and create lasting memories. Most importantly, all participants returned safely, carrying with them a strong sense of achievement and shared experience.

Looking ahead, the Texas Friends Hiking Group is exploring several ambitious future adventures, including Mount Kilimanjaro, Everest Base Camp, and Aconcagua.

The group welcomes individuals of all ages and fitness levels and looks forward to continuing its tradition of bringing people together through hiking, adventure, and community.
