🎶 KACS Board Members Take the Stage at Davies Symphony Hall!

On August 16, the SF Master Chorale’s 37th Annual Concert was held at Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco in celebration of the 81st anniversary of Korea’s Liberation Day.

Featuring more than 150 choir members and a 50-piece full orchestra, the concert presented a beautiful selection of Korean songs, followed by a powerful performance of Mozart’s Requiem in D Minor, K.626. More than 2,000 audience members filled the concert hall and celebrated the performers with a standing ovation.

We are especially proud that KACS Board Members Susan Kim and Michelle Demetrius took part in this remarkable performance as members of the choir! 👏

Their dedication to our community extends beyond their service at KACS. Seeing them share Korean culture and the beauty of music on such a prestigious stage was truly inspiring, and we are incredibly proud to have them as part of the KACS family. 💙

지난 8월 16일, 광복 81주년을 기념하여 샌프란시스코 데이비스 심포니홀에서 SF Master Chorale 제37회 정기연주회가 성황리에 개최되었습니다.

150여 명의 합창단원과 50명 규모의 풀 오케스트라가 함께한 이번 공연에서는 한국 가곡을 비롯해 모차르트의 Requiem in D Minor, K.626이 웅장하게 연주되었으며, 2,000여 명의 관객들이 공연장을 가득 메워 뜨거운 기립박수를 보냈습니다.

특히 이번 뜻깊은 무대에 KACS Board of Directors인 Susan Kim과 Michelle Demetrius가 합창단원으로 직접 참여하여 더욱 특별한 의미를 더했습니다. 👏

As part of its summer special program, KACS is offering a Smartphone Basics Class for seniors, helping participants build essential digital skills and navigate technology with greater confidence.

From basic smartphone settings to practical tools such as KakaoTalk, YouTube, maps, and calendars, seniors are learning how to use technology to stay connected, access information, and make everyday life easier.

What makes this class especially meaningful is its intergenerational spirit. Students and their mothers are volunteering together, sharing their time and knowledge while helping seniors gain confidence in the digital world. In one space, different generations come together to teach, learn, connect, and grow.

As technology and AI continue to rapidly transform our daily lives, KACS remains committed to helping seniors stay connected and ensuring that no one is left behind.

🎭 Our Immigrant History of Tears and Laughter, Brought to the Stage!

— ‘Simcheonggil Secret Recipe’ Successfully Concludes —

On July 2nd, the moving play ‘Simcheonggil Secret Recipe’ came to a heartwarming close at the Bascom Community Center in San Jose, surrounded by the warm support of over 80 attendees! 👏

Co-hosted by Masil Theater and KACS, and supported in part by the California Arts Council, this performance beautifully brought to life the vivid history of Korean immigrants—tracing their fierce and resilient journeys from Gokseong, Korea, all the way to California. ✈️🌾

* ✨ A seamless collaboration between 3 professional actors and local Korean immigrants.
* 💬 Deeply moving monologues delivered by two of our very own KACS seniors entirely from memory.
* 🎬 A heartfelt story-driven play reflecting the real-life journeys, struggles, and triumphs of our community.

It was a truly meaningful time of honoring our first-generation immigrants and connecting generations through shared history, laughter, and tears. ❤️

KACS will continue to support cultural and arts programs where our seniors and immigrant community can take center stage and share their voices, serving as a warm bridge that connects our local community. 🤝

A huge thank you to all the cast, staff, and wonderful audience members who made this unforgettable day possible!

🩺 Today, KACS hosted a Health Seminar & Screening focused on diabetes prevention and management.

Participants learned about the causes and risk factors of diabetes, as well as practical ways to prevent and manage the condition through healthy eating and lifestyle habits. 🌱🍎

We would like to thank Dr. Jae Kook Wi, former UCLA School of Medicine research professor and current director of Eudaimonia Medical Volunteer Association, for sharing his expertise and valuable insights. 👨‍⚕️

We also extend our gratitude to the Korean American Nurses Association of Northern California for providing free blood pressure and blood glucose screenings. ❤️

오늘 케이센터(KACS)에서는 당뇨병 예방과 관리를 주제로 건강 세미나 및 건강 스크리닝 행사를 진행했습니다.

👨‍⚕️ 참석자들은 당뇨병의 원인과 위험 요인에 대해 배우고, 건강한 식습관과 생활 습관을 통해 당뇨병을 예방하고 관리하는 실질적인 방법들을 알아보는 뜻깊은 시간을 가졌습니다.

🎤 귀한 지식과 경험을 나누어 주신 전 UCLA 의과대학 연구교수이자 유데모니아 의료봉사회 원장이신 위재국 박사님께 진심으로 감사드립니다.

🩸 또한 혈압 및 혈당 측정 건강 스크리닝을 제공해 주신 북가주한인간호사협회에도 깊이 감사드립니다.

KACS Community Listening Session Brings Community Voices Together

On June 8, KACS hosted a Community Listening Session at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel San Jose, bringing together approximately 50 community members for meaningful conversations about the future of our community. The event included an English-language session in the morning and a Korean-language session in the afternoon.

Participants reflected on KACS‘s 47-year impact and shared insights on the evolving needs of the Korean American community in Silicon Valley. Key themes included mental health and wellness, connection and belonging, language-accessible services, cultural preservation, and the need for community gathering spaces.

More than a listening session, this was an opportunity for community members to help shape the future of KACS. We are deeply grateful to everyone who participated and shared their voices. Your perspectives will help guide KACS as we continue to strengthen and serve our community.

This Community Listening Session was made possible through the support of Santa Clara County District 5 Supervisor Margaret Abe-Koga. We sincerely thank Supervisor Abe-Koga for helping create this opportunity for community members to come together and imagine the future together.

KACS 커뮤니티 리스닝 세션, 지역사회의 목소리와 함께 미래를 그리다

6월 8일, 케이센터(KACS)는 산호세 더블트리 힐튼 호텔에서 커뮤니티 리스닝 세션을 개최했습니다. 이날 행사에는 약 50여 명의 지역사회 구성원들이 참석해 케이센터의 지난 여정을 돌아보고, 지역사회의 현재와 미래에 대해 함께 이야기하는 뜻깊은 시간을 가졌습니다. 오전에는 영어 세션, 오후에는 한국어 세션으로 진행되어 다양한 세대와 배경을 가진 참가자들의 목소리를 들을 수 있었습니다.

참가자들은 지난 47년간 케이센터가 지역사회에 미친 영향을 돌아보고, 실리콘밸리 한인 커뮤니티의 변화하는 필요와 과제에 대해 의견을 나누었습니다. 특히 정신건강과 웰빙, 연결과 소속감, 언어 접근성, 문화유산 보존, 그리고 커뮤니티 공간의 필요성이 주요 주제로 논의되었습니다.

이번 리스닝 세션은 다양한 지역사회 리더들, 정치인, 비영리기관대표를 포함한 지역사회 구성원들이 케이센터의 미래를 함께 만들어가는 의미 있는 자리였습니다. 참여해 주시고 소중한 의견을 나눠주신 모든 분들께 진심으로 감사드립니다. 여러분의 목소리는 케이센터의 미래를 만들어가는 소중한 나침반입니다.
