Good Karma Bikes

Good Karma Bikes Our mission is to empower people and build community through bikes. Bicycles are the medium we use to create the disruptive change we believe is needed.

Good Karma Bikes, a non-profit social enterprise, is a full-service, second-hand bike shop open to the public providing services and support for the local community. We work with former foster and other disadvantaged youth. Our primary program provides work readiness and college entrance via a two-year life, work and college program to at-risk youth. In addition to working in the shop and attendin

g college, our youth also support our outreach programs to homeless and low income working people. The Good Karma Bikes community provides safe, reliable bicycle transportation, repair services, and training. We refurbish, sell, and grant bicycles at our retail shop. For every bike sold, we provide one bike or service at no charge for members of the community. Although we are a bike shop, we are not about bikes. Bicycles are simply the medium in which we work. We are a growing organization whose mission is to provide individuals with life transforming opportunities. Since our founding, we have
- Provided 17,000 free repairs
- Served 500 clients
- Granted 1,500 bicycles
- Logged 50,000 volunteer hours

In addition to our program youth and staff, it is with the support our many dedicated volunteers and donors that we are able to provide the services we do to our community.

Get ready for some family fun!

On Sunday, September 13, Viva CalleSJ will close down certain streets in the city to create car-free spaces. There, you can run, bike, scooter and skate to your heart's content! There will even be food and activities available if you need to fuel up.

Good Karma Bikes will be there to offer roadside support if you need some quick repairs. Be sure to say hi if you see us around!

Bikes make a difference; it's really that simple!

Our clients come from many walks of life, and they use their bikes for many different things. Whether they're getting to work, class, the grocery store, or taking a ride in the great outdoors, a bike helps them in their daily life.

Not only that, but bikes instill a sense of adventure, curiosity, and confidence that can inspire our clients to chase new opportunities!

For chronically absent students facing transportation barriers, a bike is a way to consistently get to class and further their education.

That's why we're working with Muwekma Ohlone Middle School to provide students facing chronic absenteeism with a bike. We've already donated 15 bikes!

We need your help to keep this momentum going. A donation will provide a student with a helmet, lock or light kit to ensure their safety.

We're celebrating the back-to-school season by 'braking' the cycle of absenteeism!๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŽ’๐Ÿ“š

Last school year, we worked with Muwekma Ohlone Middle School to provide chronically absent 6th-grade students with one important tool to help them succeed in the classroom: reliable transportation.

Since then, these chronically absent students have seen increased classroom engagement because they no longer need to worry about how they'll get to school.

Now, we're working with Muwekma Ohlone Middle School again this school year by donating bikes to incoming 6th-grade students! We've already donated 15 bikes, valued at $3,493, and we intend to uplift many, many more chronically absent students.

Our initiative to 'Brake' the Cycle of Absenteeism began years ago, when we realized that many students facing chronic absenteeism saw improvements in their grades once they were given access to reliable transportation.

A bike allows kids to get to school on time, explore their neighborhood, spend time with friends and gain the confidence they need to chase new opportunities.

Learn more about the schools we've worked with below!

A new bike provides affordable transportation, as well as a boost in confidence and a way to chase new opportunities. Take a look at your compassion in action!

According to Julian, "[his bike] is going to help [him] with [his] anxiety and stress, and [he'll] ride it for work."

Max uses his bike "to get back and forth from [his] Tiny home to go get exercise, ride around, look for work, go to church, and go to meetings."

You enact real change in our community through your compassion, bringing people new opportunities, stability, mobility, and so much more. Thank you for helping us spread good karma!๐Ÿ’š

Our July 16 Women's Night was a smashing success! A big thank you to all 16 of the lovely ladies who attended and were eager to learn!

After a presentation about roadside recovery, our attendees got some hands-on experience with changing tires and repairing tubes.

If you weren't able to make it to last week's session, don't worry. Our next Women's Night is Thursday, October 15.

Not only will you learn how to prepare your bike for the winter, but you'll also receive hands-on help with whatever mechanical issues have been bugging you-- all in a friendly, safe space. Can't wait to see you then!
