The graduating Class of 2026 protested Tom McDougall, a trustee for Mount Diablo Unified School District Area 5, when he tried to give a speech by standing up and turning their backs on him.

MCDougall has made offensive public comments regarding LGBTQ+ issues. In his first months as a trustee, McDougall stated that expressing a “biologically-correct view of only 2 sexes” and voted “No” on a Pride proclamation. He has not apologized or changed his views since. He is up for re-election in 2028.
