Hope Services More than 70 years ago, a group of parents of children with special needs felt their kids deserved the same opportunities as everyone else.

Vickey Perkins started her career sitting in the living rooms of families, helping their children one on one. Those early days are really the key to understanding everything she has built since. Today, as Director of Children and Family Services (CFS), she oversees a team that spans clinical staff, administrators, and the stakeholders who refer families to Hope. She collaborates with the agency’s entire leadership team, keeps the program on budget, and shows up as a leader in the wider community. Ask her colleagues to describe her in a single word, and “integrity” comes up first.

🌊 The Monterey Bay is called the "Serengeti of the Sea": 36 species of marine mammals, 525 species of fish, and countless relationships (otter, urchin, kelp, whale) where every role matters and every loss weakens the whole.

Our South County communities are just as interconnected. From Salinas Valley farmworkers to Watsonville families, Cabrillo College students to Carmel artists, we form one of the most demographically diverse regions in the state, all sharing a single coastline.

But one part of that ecosystem is too often left out: individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and the families who support them.
