Happy Thanksgiving 2025 from Troops 170 and 2170 – and Crew 170 - celebrating our 116th Eagle Scout and 43rd Anniversary for Troop 170 and first anniversary of Troop 2170!

Six reasons to be thankful this year:

1) The service of our alumni Lassen Longshore and Ryan So and all the veterans among our troop parents/adults

2) 2 new Eagle Scouts - #115 Frank Shau and #116 Alvin Szeto - and two more very soon.

3) The generosity and kindness of Morrill Middle School in giving us a home, and Milpitas Police Officers Association for continuing to be our charter organization. The MPOA and our charter Rep, Officer Jackman, helped us immensely in recovering from our trailer theft.

4) Troop 170 SM Emeritus, Mr. Brobst, who has Eagle Project coached many scouts. He has spent countless hours advising scouts in emails/meetings and has been there helping and advising for each Eagle project day from start to finish- whether it takes 6 hours or 13 hours.

5) The opportunity to be part of such an amazing group of families that go the extra mile for each other. This year when the trailer was stolen our families banded together to donate money and purchase replacements - and now our trailer will be even better than before.

6) We care for each other and have pride in all our scouts – like a big extended family. After watching our scouts grow and mature for 6 or 7 years each one becomes like a favorite niece or nephew – that we continue to cheer for long after they have gone on to adulthood.

As we celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday, we can be thankful for the many memories we have made together this year and the promise of many adventures ahead for 2026. May 2026 bring joy, peace and health to all of us and our families.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Congratulations to Andy Z. for completing two prestigious Scouting America STEM program Supernova Medals - The Dr. Bernard Harris and Thomas Edison Supernovas. These two awards require months of dedicated effort. To earn these two Supernova medals he also completed 4 NOVA awards in the STEM program and several STEM related merit badges.

From Andy, "Over the past year, I've worked with my STEM mentor, to build an online scouting mentorship program where scouts who need NOVA awards, requirements, and merit badges, are assisted by senior scouts who have experience in their specific request. The platform is built on a Discord server, and all requests are processed via a ticketing system with private channels and YPT rules all accounted for. This way, scouts can be easily connected to a senior who can guide them through their specific request, all without having to look for them, meet up in person, and do everything themselves.

So far, my program has assisted scouts complete requirements, work on merit badges, and begin earning the prestigious NOVA awards, all while reducing the confusion that comes with scouts who are unfamiliar with advancing through their scouting journey."

Well done Andy!

If you know a scout who is interested in STEM contact the Silicon Valley Monterey Bay Council STEM committee at [email protected]. Your scout will be connected with resources and can work with Andy and adult mentors. https://www.svmbc-stem.org/home

On this Veteran's Day Troop 170 honors and thanks our U.S. Military Veterans, Scott Horton and Gary Tilbury.

Even though this is not Armed Forces Day, we also thank our currently serving Troop 170 alumni, Military Police Officer Army Staff Sargeant Lassen Longshore and US Navy Ensign Ryan So for their service.

Thank you for your service to defend our nation and freedom. May God bless and protect all our active military and veterans!

"On this Veterans Day, let us remember the service of our veterans, and let us renew our national promise to fulfill our sacred obligations to our veterans and their families who have sacrificed so much so that we can live free." -- Dan Lipinski

"As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them." -- John F. Kennedy
