SEEDS 2026!

And just like that, 8 weeks of SEEDS have come to an end! 💚

This summer, our mentees explored their Vietnamese American heritage through history, culture, art, storytelling, community, professional development, and so much more.
A huge THANK YOU to our mentors, guest speakers, volunteers, parents, community partners, and funders for helping make this summer possible. 🫶

And most importantly, thank you to our SEEDS mentees for choosing to spend your summer with us! Thank you for showing up, sharing your stories, and learning more about your culture and community. We hope to continue seeing you in our spaces and, one day, welcome you back as mentors for the next generation of SEEDS! 🌱

Due to facilities maintenance issues at our original showcase location at the Vietnamese American Service Center (VASC) we will now be pivoting and host our showcase at The Alma Community Center!

We are so excited to see everyone tomorrow and for our mentees to be presenting their projects to our community 😊

SEEDS RECAP! 🍊🥭🍋

Week 7: Storytelling & Community 📖💚

Last week marked our final regular SEEDS session! Mentees explored the many ways stories can preserve culture and strengthen community as we welcomed Lan Nguyen and Bao Ngo, who shared their experiences with storytelling through videography and food. We also sampled recipes from our Cơm Gia Đình Anthology Cookbook, watched inspiring short films, and began developing our SEEDS Showcase projects. It was the perfect way to reflect on everything we’ve learned this summer before sharing our own stories.

🥳 IT’S SHOWCASE TIME! 🥳

Come join us in celebrating our mentees’ completion and presentation of their projects as they finish up their time here at SEEDS with VAR! From singing and dancing to presentations and poetry, our students show no bounds to their creativity and learned experiences!

Join us this Saturday at 1PM at the VASC in the multipurpose room on the 1st floor. Food will be provided.

For our mentees, please come at 11:30AM to get setup and prepared for your big moment!

Week 7: Storytelling & Community 📖💚

This week marks our final regular SEEDS session! Together, we’ll explore the power of storytelling and how sharing our experiences can strengthen our communities and preserve our histories. Mentees will also begin preparing for their SEEDS Showcase presentations, where they’ll reflect on everything they’ve learned throughout the summer.

SEEDS RECAP! 🍊🥭🍋

Week 6: Personal & Professional Development 💼✨

Last week, our sixth SEEDS session focused on preparing mentees for their future through personal and professional development. On Thursday, we welcomed Thao Nguyen from Vietnamese American Professionals Women of Silicon Valley (VAPW) VAPW , who shared valuable lessons on financial literacy and building healthy money habits. On Saturday, HaNhi Trangave our mentees a tour of the Vietnamese American Service Center (VASC) Vietnamese American Service Center (VASC) , where they learned about the resources and services available to our community.

We closed out both sessions by practicing elevator pitches using the 3 Ws, before everyone stepped in front of the camera for professional headshots. It was a week filled with practical skills, confidence building, and preparing for the opportunities ahead.

This week, mentees will build the skills they need for life beyond the classroom! We’ll be exploring interviewing, networking, and personal branding while learning how to confidently present themselves in professional spaces. Plus, everyone will receive a free professional headshot, so don’t forget to come dressed in business casual!

Alma Community Picnic Recap! 🧺🌭🍎

A huge thank you to the community who came to our Alma soft launch where we enjoyed some delicious food while being in community with each other. From our uncles singing karaoke through the tunes of our childhood to the cheers of the World Cup watch party, VAR is incredibly grateful to the community for making this a success and look forward to our future at Alma Community Center!
