Urban Roots Urban Roots Fam
Enrich. Root. Nurture. Grow.
founded in 2011 in San Jose, California.

We are developing an all-inclusive community farm and artisan non-profit for inner and outer growth, self discovery, re-centering, connecting and getting back to our roots and our community. URFAM goals are to provide wellness empowerment talks and workshops at our outdoor classroom space for youth to seniors, create jobs and teach a variety of valuable skills, further improving intra and extra pe

rsonal skills while introducing a new career skill-set for the growing urban farming movement. URFAM develops connectedness, a greater sense of purpose, stronger community and ultimately healthier happier people.

Tip - Summer Vegetables
There’s still time to put in your warm season vegetables from transplant. If you start now from seed, you simply will have a shorter harvest season. With the unusually cool temperatures we’ve had this spring, you won’t be too far behind vegetables planted earlier. Warm temperatures and sunshine are part of what make your summer vegetables grow. Particularly sun-loving vegetables include tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, melons, and squash. And that includes “winter squash” which is so named because it is thick skinned and stores well over the winter. http://cagardenweb.ucanr.edu/Vegetables/

All at Valley Verde care deeply about the next generation. These students are learning all about seed starters, the beginning stages of a plant's life before it becomes our food! They are eager to learn and grow, and it is our honor to help them do so.

Did you know that a standard size apple tree can take up to 8 years to bear fruit? How many years on our goals do we put forth consistent effort? When the buds have not yet blossomed, and there is no sign of bearing fruit, remember the journey is the process, every experience, thought and reflection is nearing you toward your goal when you stay on course and continue to nurture it. Patience is a virtue and worth investing in to increase one's Faith.
