Silicon Valley FACES is dedicated to creating and promoting an empathetic and inclusive community free of bias, bigotry and violence through our programs and advocacy. General information

FACES was founded in 1965 as a regional office of the National Conference of Christians and Jews. The national organization later changed its name to the National Conference for Community and Justice (NCCJ), and when the NCCJ restructured in 2005, FACES became a separate 501(c)(3) known as the Silicon Valley Conference for Community and Justice. In 2008, the board of directors changed the name to Silicon Valley FACES to reflect the diversity of our neighborhoods and the larger community they comprise. Since 1996, we have collaborated with schools to provide much-needed social-emotional learning (SEL) programs to youth in Santa Clara, San Mateo, and Alameda counties. At a time when bullying, violence, bigotry, and racism are in the news nearly every day, we’re reaching youth at a pivotal juncture, teaching empathy, respect, self-worth, inclusiveness, honesty, and integrity. Recognizing the importance of delivering a continuum of empathy education – and the urgency of keeping kids in school, rather than relying on expulsion as a disciplinary measure – FACES recently opened a new chapter in its history with the introduction of restorative practices training for educators and others who work with youth. Also brand new this fall, FACES launched conflict management courses tailored to law enforcement personnel in an effort to avert problems before they happen. As always, our mission to build communities free of bias, bigotry, bullying, and violence is at the core of all we do, and we plan to grow and shape our programs to evolve with the needs of the many “faces” of Silicon Valley.
