Please join us in screaming WELCOME HOME to Sister Warrior Gayle Jenkins, affectionately known as āPopsā.
Pops spent 42 long years in prison under Californiaās 3-strike law. Pops was released under Assembly Bill 600 and was told by a Judge, she should have been released 18 years ago. Once resentenced, she was released 3 days later with no opportunity to get housing and services secured. Sister Warriors lead, Trancita Ponce, and community stepped up and supported getting her housing and the support and care she deserves.
As we welcome Pops home, we also know her journey of healing and integrating into the outside world will be a long one. It is completely unacceptable for our people to lose years of their lives behind bars due to system bureaucracy and unjust, harsh sentencing. Sister Warriors Freedom Coalition organizes every day to support our Sisters and get our folks home. Our vision of freedom rests on our belief that we deserve joy, care, love, and community ā not punishment, criminalization, and cages.
If you want to support our Sisters coming home and those still behind prison walls, TAP IN with us! You can join our upcoming Statewide virtual meeting, or find your closest regional chapter meeting and find out how. If you canāt make it this month, we hold our chapter meetings monthly, so please join us.
Come as YOU ARE. We are here to support one another! There is a role for each of us in this moment, and we are stronger when we organize together.
