Our Inaugural Women Veterans Day Walk brought together more than 100 members of our community for a half mile walk along The Alameda.

Thank you to Santa Clara County District 4 Supervisor Susan Ellenberg, California District 18 Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren, San Jose District 6 Councilmember Michael Mulcahy, and San Jose District 7 Councilmember Bien Doan for speaking on the significance of Women Veterans Day.

At Open Doors to Future Possibilities, our mission has always been to support those who have served. To have this level of community and civic support behind this mission means more than we can put into words. Thank you to everyone who walked, tabled, spoke, and celebrated with us. Women Veterans deserve this recognition, and this community showed up to give it to them.

Sixty thousand dollars. That is the number at the center of our Opening the Door campaign, and we want to be transparent about what it means.

When Open Doors to Future Possibilities commits to hiring veterans. We are intentionally building a livelihood and deepening community ties. The $60,000 per hire covers full compensation, benefits, wraparound support services, and the operational investment required to make that employment stable and long-term.

We are working toward 10 hires total after celebrating our 2 new hires! That is a direct investment into the lives of veterans who have earned every dollar of it.

Donor contributions during this campaign go directly toward that goal. Every gift at every level moves us closer.

We are grateful for every person who chooses to invest in this mission. If you are ready to give click this link:

If you are not ready to give, we ask that you share this post. Visibility is also a gift.

Thank you.

Tomorrow is Women Veterans Day. On June 12th, 1948, President Truman signed the Women's Armed Services Integration Act, formally recognizing women as permanent members of the U.S. Armed Forces. It was a defining moment in American military history, and one that should be continually celebrated as women make up the fastest growing segment of the Veteran population today.

Dr. Simone Lundquist joined Ms. V of She-Radio on KKUP 91.5 to talk about the history behind this day and why it matters. Thank you, Ms. V, for giving this conversation the platform it deserves.

Join us tomorrow, Friday, June 12th, at 5:30 PM at 1550 The Alameda, San Jose for our inaugural Women Veterans Day Walk.

Many of you paused with us to honor every man and woman who has served this country on Memorial Day.

The veterans we at Open Doors to Future Possibilities serve have given something most of us will never be asked to give. What they deserve in return is opportunity, stability, and a community that refuses to leave them behind.

Today we are launching our Opening the Door donor campaign with one mission at its center: hire 10 veterans, fully supported, fully compensated, fully invested in. Each hire requires $60,000 necessary for the infrastructure to make that employment last.

This campaign runs through the Fourth of July, because the freedom we celebrate on that day means something different when the people who fought for it are struggling to find their footing at home. We intend to change that how we can in our community.

If you believe in this mission, today is the day to act on it. Visit this link or our bio to make your gift and join us in building something that honors the service made by our local veterans.

On June 6, 1944, Allied forces landed on the beaches of Normandy and parachuted behind enemy lines during D-Day, fighting for our freedom.

We honor their courage and sacrifice, and carry forward the legacy they left behind.

A ceremony of this magnitude takes a community, and ours showed up in a big way. We are so thankful to the sponsors who made our Memorial Day event a reality: Special Events, Silicon Valley Open Doors Lions Club, Phil Rolla, Mary and Karl-Heinz Lachnit, Peninsula Veterans Lions Club, The Save Mart Companies, Frito Lay, Pepsi, Valley Services, and Blackstone Wedding Florist. Because of your generosity, we were able to honor our Veterans with the dignity and tradition they deserve. From all of us at Open Doors to Future Possibilities, thank you for your support.

Staff Sergeant Wayne Heimsoth, California State Guard, showed up for our Memorial Day ceremony in significant ways, including leading both the rifle volley tribute and the solemn folding of the flag with intention. His investment in the Veteran community is evident in every action, from his support of Open Doors and beyond. Wayne currently serves as a Staff Sergeant with the California State Guard's 129th Support Group at Moffett Field, serves as the adjutant for the American Legion Post 99 and District 13, and continually volunteers at the VA Hospital in Palo Alto and the Fisher House.

Wayne's narration of the 13 folds of the flag brought a depth of meaning to the ceremony that many had never experienced before. Stay tuned, we will be sharing the full account in an upcoming blog post.

Thank you for your time and continued commitment to the veterans we proudly serve.
