Our team enjoyed representing Open Doors to Future Possibilities at the Saratoga Car Show and connecting with the community. It was a great opportunity to share our mission, meet new faces, and remind people that we are here and actively working on behalf of Veterans and underserved communities across the Bay Area. We love being out in the community and are always grateful for the chance to make new connections.

Happy National Nonprofit Day from all of us at Open Doors to Future Possibilities! Today we get to celebrate something we are genuinely proud of, the work, the community, and the mission that brings us together every single day. None of it happens without the people who believe in this mission alongside us. Thank you for being part of the Open Doors family. Here is to the work and the future we are building together.

We are excited to share that our digital literacy program has officially launched across our locations. In partnership with Digitunity and the AT&T Connected Learning Program, Open Doors to Future Possibilities will be hosting workshops through November 2026 focused on building the digital skills Veterans need to thrive. From finding jobs and accessing benefits to basic cell phone use and staying connected with loved ones, these workshops are designed to meet Veterans where they are and give them tools they can use every day. And thanks to Human-I-T, 200 laptops have been donated to the program. Veterans who attend at least three workshops will get to keep a laptop, taking their new skills home with them for good. We are grateful beyond words for this partnership and what it means for the people we serve.

We recently wrapped up a series of Waymo workshops at our San Francisco and Mountain View locations, and we could not be more grateful for the experience. Veterans who attended learned how to navigate Waymo's platform and accessible transportation options, and each one received a free ride as part of the event. Waymo's continued investment in the Veteran community reflects the kind of partnership that creates real, tangible impact. Thank you for showing up for the people we serve.

Getting there is often the hardest part. Thanks to a $5,000 grant from Uber, Open Doors to Future Possibilities is providing free rides and grocery deliveries to Veterans who need them, helping an estimated 50 to 75 people access the care, services, and community that make a real difference. Read the full story on our blog, including how this grant is changing things for one Veteran in particular: https://www.opendoorstofuturepossibilities.org/post/making-every-ride-count

A big thank you to the team at Tobener Ravenscroft LLP for coming to our War Memorial building to host a tenant rights workshops for Veterans. The session covered everything from renter protections in San Francisco to up to date legal guidance on navigating housing as a tenant, and gave participants the chance to ask real questions and get real answers from legal professionals. Housing stability is one of the most pressing concerns facing Veterans today, and events like this one make a direct difference. We are grateful for this partnership.

Happy Birthday to the United States Coast Guard, founded on August 4th, 1790. For more than two centuries, the men and women of the Coast Guard have served with distinction, protecting our waters, saving lives, and responding when communities need them most. Their service is often unsung, but it is no less significant. Open Doors to Future Possibilities is proud to stand alongside Coast Guard Veterans and support their transition to civilian life and increase their mental fitness through counseling, employment assistance, and community connection. Thank you for your service.

Today is National Hire a Veteran Day, and we want to take a moment to recognize the value Veterans bring to the workforce. The skills developed through military service, leadership under pressure, adaptability, teamwork, and a commitment to mission, are exactly what employers are looking for. At Open Doors to Future Possibilities, employment assistance is a core part of our work because we know that a meaningful career is central to a Veteran's transition and long term wellbeing. If you are an employer, consider making a commitment today. If you are a Veteran looking for support, we are here.

Open Doors to Future Possibilities is sharing a milestone from our weekly Mindful Movement Workshop, and we think it is worth celebrating.
Every Friday from 11:00 to 11:45 AM at 401 Van Ness Avenue, Room 224 in San Francisco, Grandmaster and Hanshi James Carter leads veterans through simple martial arts and tai chi movements built around mental and physical wellness. The classes are free, welcoming, and have become a meaningful part of the week for the veterans who attend regularly.
That moment represents more than a belt. It represents consistency, community, and the kind of forward movement that Open Doors works to support in every program we run.
If you are a Bay Area veteran and want to join the next class this Friday, we would love to have you. Come as you are.

Last Friday, we honored the life of Cash Faron, USMC (Ret.), a cherished member of our Open Doors family and the War Memorial Veterans community.

Last August, Cash came to San Francisco looking for a fresh start and quickly became an integral part of our community. He gave back through volunteering, welcoming every Veteran with a smile and a proud “Oorah,” and helping create the warm, welcoming space we have today.

At his celebration of life, many Veterans and our open doors family came together to share stories, honor his memory, and celebrate the lasting impact he had on our community.
