Many years in ministry brings with in many reminders!

With my 70th birthday fast approaching this year, and being reminded that I’ve spent exactly half of my life, heading up this ministry, Christa and I’ve also learned what it means to grow in gratitude!   When we started out; a young starry eyed, mid-career couple, with dreams of conquering the ...

There is so much to be celebrated in Africa!

Providing daily for the needs of our orphans, in itself, is a significant challenge. Added to that, of course, is also the challenge to fund their education. But these stresses fade into insignificance when at the end of each year we note the academic progress of our children. And so, we just want t...

Replacing the solar water pump on the well at the Mansa Orphan Center, proved to be a greater challenge than anticipated. First we found that the existing control unit was incompatible with the new pump. And so we had to replace and rewire the whole system. Then for two days the new pump would trip out every so often, and only late today (our second day on the job) we figured out that our well had silted in over the years, and so after lifting the pump several meters high in the well, our new pump kicked in and started doing the job its supposed to. So now clean drinking water is again flowing freely for our Orphans and the community. Do pray for us as we take off tomorrow morning early AM on the long all day drive back to Lusaka for the next phase of our trip. Pictured are Chris and Adriaan (My brother) who also accompanied us on this trip.

To all our friends and supporters, kindly note that Christo and Johan are on their way to Zambia today. Please pray for our Team, for safety good health. This trip is scheduled around the delivery of several thousand Training manuals for our Bible School program across Zambia. But we also received notice yesterday from Pastor Henry that our water pump on the well at the Mansa Orphan Center just packed up. And so, Johan and Christo will be carrying with them also a new pump, which they will install, so as to ensure ongoing reliable clean drinking water for our orphans and the community in general.

This year Christa and I will pass the 35-year milestone in our service with AFnet. And so, reflecting back upon the many places that we’ve lived and worked, we were amazed at how far and wide we’ve actually also traveled in this time. Starting out on our journey back then, we could not have imag...

I'm happy to report back and confirm that the Generator, and all the equipment needed to start the new ISOM Bible School in the Serenje area in the north-East region of Zambia, was delivered. Pictured below is Pastor Christo Botha with pastors Bernard and Jessie Simunyama, who will oversee also this new remote, rural Bible School. Bernard and Jessie, not only have been a prolific Church Planting team, launching several successful churches across that region, but also have been responsible for starting and running several successful in-service, Bible School programs for AFnet. And, over time have overseen the graduation of at least a couple hundred Bible School students through our Training Programs. Thank you to the Team from Colorado, who earlier in the year donated the funds for this equipment and training materials for this new Bible School: Corbin Johnston, Clanton Johnston, Luke Tyler Grimsley, Brandon Pickering, Shawn Randolph, and Chad Hemme.

To our AFnet friends and supporters we want to say thank you for your continued prayers and support for our work in Africa. Kindly remember then to also be in prayer for Christo and Rentia, with John and Amy Hanley, as they today start the long journey back from Lusaka, Zambia, to South Africa. Thanks also to Bishop Henry Mumba, with Esther, and the research team who all so diligently helped with the months of preparations, as well as the project itself over the past couple of weeks in Mansa. We trust that all of this input and contributions will in the long run prove to be a valuable contribution towards bettering the lives and destiny of many of our people who currently still live beyond the reach of good, quality and affordable Health Care in so many part of our world!

In our first week at the centre Rentia taught Schola, one of the ladies at the centre. to make tomato jam. The project turned out a great success and here Schola is preparing bread rolls for the children. It is the first time many of the children ate jam made from the tomatoes that they helped plant, care for and harvest.
