Local 270 is chartered by the Laborers International Union of North America, AFL-CIO. The International Union headquarters are located in Washington, D.C., with chartered Locals throughout the United States, Canada, and in the South Pacific. The first recorded meeting of Local 270 was held on August 5, 1916. Then on November 1, 1982 the Local 234 General Laborers (Santa Cruz) merged with the Laborers Local 270. The Laborers Local 270 later broadened their horizons even more when they merged with the Local 760 (San Mateo County Cement Mill Workers), and the Local 283 (Santa Cruz Construction and General Laborers). Since that time, the Local has been providing representation and support for all our members in the Bay area. We represent employees in both construction and industrial occupations, and in both the private and public sectors. Our member's skills range from heavy equipment operator to laboratory technician, from city workers to policemen. Our geographic jurisdiction covers the California counties of San Benito, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz and Monterey. We have offices in Salinas, San Jose and Santa Cruz, California. Through the collective voice of our membership, we promote the election of local, state and federal politicians who support legislation and government policy which is beneficial to working men and women. We seek to focus our voting power toward aiding those who share and support the values and ideals of working families. We stand on the principle that only through concerted voice and action can workers maintain a fair, just and equitable partnership with their employers in the work place. We contend that all men and women have the right to organize for their own benefit, free from coercion and intimidation. We endeavor to further the interests, not only of those hard working men and women we directly represent, but all working people. We welcome all those who wish to organize, and extend our hand to help all those who want to help themselves.

LOCAL 270 HAD A VOICE AT THE TABLE.
The 27th LIUNA International Union Convention was more than a gathering of Laborers from across the United States and Canada. It was an opportunity for our delegates and leaders to represent the interests of our members and be part of the conversations and decisions that help shape the future of our Union.
Our Business Manager Enrique Arguello and Assistant Business Manager & Political Captain Luis Arguello proudly represented LIUNA Local 270, standing alongside LIUNA leaders and delegates committed to creating more opportunities, protecting our benefits, strengthening our Union, and building a better future for working families.
One of the special moments of the Convention was hearing from Xavier Becerra, who shares a personal connection with Laborers. The son of a union construction worker, Becerra also worked as a Laborer represented by LIUNA before beginning his professional career.

Enrique and Luis also had the opportunity to speak with Becerra during the Convention — another meaningful moment of representation for Local 270.

Drink water throughout the day, take your breaks, cool down when needed, and look out for your Brothers and Sisters on the jobsite.

Don’t wait until you feel thirsty. Hydrate early and hydrate often.

THIS IS WHAT THE LIUNA LOCAL 270 FAMILY IS ALL ABOUT.

Brothers and Sisters coming together with their families to celebrate our unity, our friendship, and the strength of our Union.

Thousands of our members and their families joined us for our 2026 Annual BBQ — a day filled with great food, music, dancing, and, most importantly, time together as one Union family.

Our kids enjoyed the rides, inflatables, games, and activities, while Banda Maguey and Banda Toro brought the music and kept everyone dancing.

We were also proud to welcome special guests from our community, including San José Mayor Matt Mahan, Milpitas Mayor Carmen Montano, and other longtime friends of Local 270.

We were honored to have with us Neftalí Said Pérez González, Consul General of Mexico in San José, as well as Gustavo Larios Uribe, Secretario General de la Unión de Estibadores y Jornaleros del Pacífico, based in Manzanillo, Colima, Mexico.

But the heart of this celebration was YOU — our Brothers and Sisters and your families.

On behalf of our Business Manager, Enrique Arguello, and myself, Assistant Business Manager Luis Arguello, thank you to every Brother and Sister who joined us, and to everyone who worked hard behind the scenes to make this great Union family celebration possible.

WHEN OUR MEMBERS STAY INFORMED AND INVOLVED, OUR UNION GROWS STRONGER.

As we do every month, our Local 270 Brothers and Sisters came together for our Membership Meeting — a time to stay informed, hear directly from our leadership, and continue working together for the future of our Union.

Business Manager / Secretary-Treasurer Enrique Arguello presented his monthly report, highlighting the work and activities of September, including Local 270’s participation in the 27th LIUNA International Convention, our 2026 Annual BBQ, training opportunities, and our continued efforts to create more opportunities for our members and their families.

Our Political Captain Luis Arguello encouraged Brothers and Sisters to stay involved and answer the calls to participate as we approach the November election. An informed and engaged membership helps working families make their voices heard.

We also heard from Brother John Zervas, who shared an important message about the continued organizing work being done to help more Laborers have the opportunity to work union — with the wages, benefits, representation, and opportunities that come with a strong union workforce.

That is what our Membership Meetings are about: information, participation, organizing, and unity.

WHAT A DAY FOR OUR LIUNA LOCAL 270 FAMILY!
A heartfelt THANK YOU to all our Brothers and Sisters who joined us with their families this Sunday for the 2026 LIUNA Local 270 Annual BBQ!
It was a great day to celebrate what makes Local 270 strong: our members, our families, and the solidarity that brings us together.
Our LIUNA family enjoyed live music from Banda Maguey and Banda Toro, great food and drinks, dancing, inflatable attractions for the kids, carnival rides, a mechanical bull, and most importantly, the opportunity to spend time together as one big Union family.
During the celebration, Luis Arguello, Assistant Business Manager and Political Captain of LIUNA Local 270, welcomed our members and introduced several special guests who joined us, including San José Mayor Matt Mahan; Milpitas Mayor Carmen Montano; Lorena Chavez, Vice President of the East Side Union High School District Board of Trustees; Neftali Said Pérez González, Consul General of Mexico in San José; and Gustavo Larios Uribe, Secretary General of the Unión de Estibadores y Jornaleros del Pacífico of Mexico. Their presence added to a special day, but the heart of this celebration was our Brothers and Sisters and the families who stand beside them every day.

XAVIER BECERRA MEETS WITH LOCAL 270 LEADERS AT LIUNA’S INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION
A meaningful moment for our LIUNA Local 270 family at the 27th LIUNA International Convention.
LIUNA General President Brent Booker introduced Xavier Becerra, future Governor of California, before thousands of Laborers and delegates gathered in Las Vegas.
Becerra’s connection to LIUNA is personal. His father was a proud LIUNA Laborer, and Xavier worked alongside him in construction when he was young.
Following his remarks, Becerra spoke with our Business Manager Enrique Arguello and Political Captain Luis Arguello.
Joining this special moment were Oscar De La Torre, Business Manager of the Northern California District Council of Laborers; Sergio Rascón, Business Manager of LIUNA Local 300 in Los Angeles; and Gustavo Larios Uribe, Secretary General of the Unión de Estibadores y Jornaleros del Pacífico of Manzanillo, Mexico.
Local 270 continues to make sure the voices, jobs, benefits, and future of our Laborers and their families are part of the conversation.

Nuestros líderes y delegados de LIUNA Local 270, encabezados por nuestro Business Manager Enrique Arguello y Assistant Business Manager Luis Arguello, están participando en la 27th International Convention de LIUNA, junto a representantes de diferentes Locales de Estados Unidos y Canadá.
Durante esta Convención se están tomando decisiones importantes para el futuro de nuestros Laborers: más oportunidades de trabajo, mejores beneficios, contratos más fuertes y mayor protección para nuestros miembros y sus familias.
También se están tratando temas relacionados con los trabajadores inmigrantes. LIUNA ha mantenido una posición clara: los derechos de los inmigrantes también son derechos de los trabajadores, y todos merecen respeto, dignidad y protección en su lugar de trabajo.
