🌈Pride Month is a global observance of the LGBTQ+ community, but it is frequently misunderstood.

🌍️The reality is that Pride did not start off as a celebration, it began as a fierce, grassroots protest against police brutality and systemic discrimination. For over 50 years, communities worldwide have used this month to serve as an educational period for teaching LGBTQ+ history, recognizing ongoing civil rights issues, and holding memorials for those lost to violence and the HIV/AIDS crisis.

💡Swipe through the slides to learn some of the misconceptions our community still faces. Understanding the realities and importance of Pride Month is still crucial, especially because so many individuals still struggle with expressing their true identities in a supportive environment.

We hope AACI is part of your support circle because AACI is here for you, all of you and all that you are. 🫶🏼

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, commemorates the moment on June 19, 1865, when Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas, to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation — finally bringing freedom to over 250,000 enslaved African Americans. Today, we honor the strength and resilience of Black communities who have carried forward the fight for justice and equality in the face of racism and systemic oppression.

At AACI, we stand in solidarity with Black communities — past, present, and future — and reaffirm our unwavering commitment to everyone in our community.

As such, AACI's offices will be closed today, June 19th, and will reopen on Monday, June 22nd. We hope this time can be used to reflect on this vital part of our shared history and encourage others to find ways to contribute to the pursuit of justice and freedom.

Our Senior Wellness Program was full of joy and tradition last month as we hosted a vibrant AAPI celebration! From the stunning work of a Chinese calligraphy artist to the lively atmosphere of our community space, it was a beautiful day of cultural connection. ❤️

We want to extend a special shoutout to our volunteers from Equinix, Inc. who joined us to help staff our candy station. 🍬 Our seniors had a wonderful time guessing which countries the treats were from, but they were even more touched by the warmth and kindness the Equinix team shared throughout the afternoon.

It is such a privilege to work with volunteers who prioritize human connection. These moments of laughter and shared treats do so much to uplift our seniors, making them feel seen and appreciated by the wider community. Your presence truly turned a celebration into a lasting memory for our clients.

Thank you, Equinix, for your warmth, your kindness, and your time! We are honored to have your support in honoring and caring for our elders. 👏

Congratulations to Trung D., our Community Health Worker Lead, on being named employee of the month recently! 🎉

Here’s what fellow AACI staff had to say about Trung: 💬 “Trung consistently goes above and beyond to ensure our team is equipped for success. A recent example of this was his proactive effort to organize and coordinate resource sessions on the impact of health benefits, where he actively encouraged Senior Wellness Program (SWP) staff to participate. Trung stands for the idea that we are stronger together. He exhibited AACI values by showing concern for all aspects of the job. He recognizes that for the Community Health Worker (CHW) program to succeed, the SWP team also needs to be deeply connected to those community resources. His energy and organization have made it easy for my team to stay informed and engaged, proving that he values the input and success of every colleague.”

Thank you, Trung, for your outstanding efforts in the workplace and all that you do for our community! 👏

Trung collaborates with other local community-based organizations as part of an Asian and Pacific Islander (API) CHW Network. Together, the network provides culturally and linguistically appropriate health education, outreach, and advocacy to improve health equity across Vietnamese, Chinese, Indian American, Korean, Japanese, Filipino, and Regional Pacific Islander communities in Santa Clara County.
