Hector Armienta - Opera Cultura A Latinx-Hispanic opera company based in San Jose, CA Cuentos has been performed in San Jose and in Guadalajara, Mexico's Degollado Theater.

HISTORY
Founded by composer Héctor Armienta, our programming in the past has included presenting Latinx-Hispanic opera, collaborating with other organizations in our community, and providing training for young people in the performing arts. While San Jose remains our artistic home, we have also presented and co-presented in New York, Washington, D.C., and México. Notable performances include La L

lorona: A Musical Drama, Rio de Mujéres, Bless Me, Ultima: A Mexican-American Opera, and the immigration song cycle opera Cuentos de Peregrinacón. Opera Cultura also initiated the Arte Sin Fronteras (Art Without Borders) Initiative, a cross-cultural exchange between San Jose, CA and Guadalajara, Mexico.

This Saturday, June 27, Opera Cultura presents ¡Chicanísima! at MACLA in San José's East Side. Two performances only: 12 PM and 5:30 PM.
The program features Quinteto Latino performing music by Grammy Award-winning composer Gabriela Lena Frank — whose opera just debuted at the Metropolitan Opera in New York — plus the powerful story behind ¡Chicanísima! as told by composer Carla Lucero and Chicana activist Olga Talamante in a recent ABC7 interview.
