SEIU 521 Momentum Health professionals came out at yesterday's rally and press event to elevate their union voice.
Momentum workers are compelled to fix a broken system for their clients, community and their workplace: wages that don’t keep up with inflation, high cost of living in Santa Clara County and towering workloads are overwhelming the staff at Momentum Health.
Strong union members (many women, parents, and people of color) are uniting at Momentum to send a clear messages to management:
"Our department is supposed to have nine clinicians and we only have five for over 720 clients. My client has been on a waiting list for therapy since February 2022 and currently, there are still 9 people in front of her until she can be seen. My client recognizes she is not able to interview well or hold a job because she has too much trauma to deal with." -Francisco Flores, Community Services Specialist, Momentum for Health
"I am a single mother of a five-year-old daughter, and just to have her on my insurance I pay $1,200 a month out of pocket. I work full-time at Momentum and regularly pick up overtime just to make ends meet. Not having healthcare coverage for my daughter is not an option, but spending $14,400 a year out of pocket means I can't afford to move out of my mom's house and I am scraping pennies together at the end of the month. Momentum must do better so that parents like myself can continue to serve our community." -Jessica Delgado, Case Manager at Momentum for Health
