To our Valor Games Family,
The last several months have been an emotional and life-altering experience to the entire world. Through this period of uncertainty, we have gained a stronger sense of community and the need for togetherness. Our goal has always been to provide opportunities to individuals with varying abilities to allow for self-growth, empowerment, and independence through sport. The camaraderie and relationships built through this avenue foster those ideals. It is for this reason we announce with a heavy heart, that Far West Wheelchair Athletic Association will not be hosting the 2021 Valor Games Far West.
We were unable to meet the needs to apply and sustain running the event at the high standard we have become accustomed too. The event is unlike any other and we are fortunate enough to have been the host for the last 7 years, a feat we’re incredibly proud of. This was due to the hard work of a dedicated and skilled group of people (volunteers, adaptive sports specialists from National Governing Bodies, and sponsors) to whom we have endless gratitude towards. Valor Games Far West has been fortunate enough to have tremendous leadership over the years under the direction of Jessica Elix. Along with the unwavering support of Coast Guard Island, Jessica and her committee allowed hundreds of our athletes and volunteers to compete safely in an environment built entirely for them to excel in. We are all eternally grateful to have participated in and witnessed this amazing event. The event would not have been possible without the vision and financial support from the Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of Adaptive Sports.
This does not mean our relationship has to end as we are committed to continuing to serve veterans. Future programming will look different moving forward, but we remain optimistic it will still fulfill our vision. Far West Wheelchair Athletic Association will continue to be a resource and find ways to best serve you. We thank you for allowing us to be part your lives over the years and appreciate the sacrifices you have made for us all. The emotion towards this event and each and every one of you can’t accurately be expressed in words.
May we all continue to be kind and supportive to one another during this trying time and beyond.
Sincerely,
Far West Wheelchair Athletic Association Board
