We are excited to share that Mony Nop has been elected President-Elect of the Association of Fundraising Professionals Silicon Valley Chapter.

Mony brings a deep commitment to service, community leadership, and philanthropy. A retired police officer, Realtor, nonprofit leader, and advocate for community collaboration, he has spent decades connecting people, building partnerships, and supporting organizations that expand opportunity for others.

His journey from arriving in the United States as a refugee to becoming a respected community leader in the Bay Area reflects resilience, generosity, and a belief in the power of giving back.

We are grateful for Mony’s leadership and look forward to the perspective and energy he will bring to AFPSV in the years ahead!

Led by Josh Selo, MBA, CFRE, CEO of Bill Wilson Center, this session will explore how philanthropy has been shaped by systems that preserve wealth and power, and how those dynamics continue to show up today in board culture, donor relationships, and organizational practices.

Last week, we had the opportunity to learn from Roger Ali, Chair of the AFP Global Board of Directors, and we wanted to share a message from him.

He reminded us that crafting the ask matters. Preparation is what builds confidence, and being clear and direct is what sets you up for success in those moments.

But more than anything, his message was simple. Fundraising is really about friendraising. It’s about building strong, genuine relationships that last over time.

And in today’s landscape, that matters more than ever, especially as so much support comes from a small group of committed donors.

This six-month program pairs experienced fundraising professionals with emerging leaders for one-on-one mentorship focused on professional growth and community building. Mentors and mentees connect at least twice a month, with the program kicking off in April and wrapping up with a celebration in October.

Whether you're ready to share your expertise or looking to grow in your fundraising career, there's a spot for you.

We are proud to celebrate Sabrina-Moné Lamontagne, CFRE as the 2025 AFP Silicon Valley Chapter Service Award recipient!

Sabrina-Moné has served AFPSV for years. As Mentorship Chair, she has built and led one of the strongest mentorship programs our chapter has seen, supporting the growth of fundraisers across Silicon Valley.

Sabrina-Moné is currently the Director of Leadership Annual Giving at San José State University, her alma mater, and is also a past AFPSV IDEA Fellow.

We had the pleasure of celebrating her at our January Chapter Luncheon, and we hope you’ll join us in congratulating her on this well-deserved recognition.

Roger Ali has helped raise more than $200 million for causes that matter. On March 13, he is sharing exactly how he does it.

Roger's career speaks for itself. Over 20+ years, he has led fundraising programs through major capital and endowment campaigns, serving as President and CEO of Niagara Health Foundation, Vice President of Development at Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation, and Executive Director at The Bishop Strachan School Foundation.

But what makes Roger exceptional is not just his track record. It is his philosophy. He believes deeply in donor-centered relationships over transactional fundraising, in leading lightly through uncertainty, and in making the profession more inclusive and accessible for fundraisers at every stage.

Next week he brings all of that to our chapter for a session on mastering major gifts in today's philanthropic landscape. This is a rare opportunity to learn from one of the most respected voices in our field, right here in your own backyard.
