Mini Cat Town Mini Cat Town is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that specializes in rehabilitating orphaned neonatal kittens. We watched this happen over and over again.

Mini Cat Town is located inside Eastridge Center in San Jose. We are registered as a rescue partner with the City of San Jose. From the Co-Founders:

We have been rescuing animals for as long as we can remember. We grew up in south San Jose, in a rough neighborhood that was overrun by stray and feral cats. As young children, we would save our $1 per week allowance to purchase food to care for the neighborhood cats. We would find kittens, take care of them until they were old enough to find a home, and then find families to adopt them. We did the best we could with what we had at the time. As we got older, the issue in our neighborhood continued to grow rapidly. The stray and feral cats had kittens and those kittens would grow up to have more, in a never-ending cycle. Once we were teenagers, we got jobs at our local Baskin Robbins because we needed the money to help our community cats. We educated ourselves on population control and learned how to humanely trap the cats, have them spayed/neutered at our city animal shelter, and release them. This program was called Trap, Neuter, Release (TNR). By doing this, cats in our neighborhood would be able to live out their lives without continuously reproducing and overpopulating the neighborhood. We worked at Baskin Robbins throughout high school and saved up funds to put every single cat and kitten in our neighborhood through the TNR program. By the time we graduated, all 100+ of the feral and stray cats in our neighborhood had gone through TNR. All of the kittens we found during this time were rehabilitated, fixed, and placed in forever homes. As college students, we started independently fostering on a small scale and documenting our work on social media. We raised kittens we found or that were given to us and placed them in homes. It wasn’t until we posted a video of our dog, Lilo, cuddling with our foster kitten, Rosie, that our whole world turned upside down! The video went viral and our social media exploded. This allowed us to continue our work on a much larger scale. Through generous donations and the support of our online and immediate community, we officially established Mini Cat Town in December of 2015. Since then, we have dedicated our lives to rescuing neonatal kittens, who are the most at-risk population in shelters. Every year, during kitten season, over 5000 orphaned neonatal kittens pour into the shelter during the warmer months because of the overpopulation of stray and feral cats in communities just like the one we grew up in. We hope to build a large enough organization and facilities to help every kitten in our community. Mini Cat Town is, by far, our greatest achievement and we are proud to have made it this far! Excuse us Hershey, did we interrupt your shenanigans? 😂 Hershey was first placed into foster care because she was very shy and not adjusting well on the adoption floor. Her foster mom, Jessica, reports that she is now doing really well! When she first arrived, she would only stay in the bathroom and never venture out. She’d hide most of the time. But with a little love, patience, and some delicious treats, Hershey is now much more confident, will venture out of her safe space to chase the laser toy or sit on a chair! She is still unsure of loud noises, but who isn’t 🤷🏻‍♀️ She has always gotten along well with other cats, in fact, she misses having cat friends in her foster home, especially when her foster mom plays cat sounds on her phone, she’s always annoyed to discover the lack of cats when she runs over for a peek 😅 Because she has progressed so well, we think she’s ready to graduate from foster and find her forever family! We have the most incredible news! 🥹 Our resident shy guy, Leonard, who traveled all the way from Hawaii and waited 548 days to find his forever family, went home yesterday! 🥰 His family is a loving couple with three other cats he will be slowly introduced to. Leonard loves the company of other cats and a quiet environment, so it’s pretty perfect! We are so excited for everyone, happy gotcha day to sweet Leonard!! Thank you to his family for seeing what an amazing guy he really is! 🏡❤️

Rarely are we left speechless by what we encounter while caring for rescue animals. This was one of those cases.
Our Mini Cat Town Spay Shuttle team was preparing this cat for a routine spay surgery when they felt tiny but solid masses beneath her skin, on her abdomen and in her right leg. What they found was even more shocking.
Unfortunately, this is not the only recent case of a cat being shot with a pellet gun in San Jose.
Last month, San Jose Animal Care & Services responded to two separate incidents involving stray cats shot with pellet guns in different parts of the city. In the first case, a roughly six-month-old cat was found severely underweight and unable to stand near Chaucer Drive and South King Road. Veterinary staff at the shelter found eight pellets lodged in her body. A second cat was found weeks later near South Almaden Avenue and Union Street with a pellet-gun injury.
These incidents are a serious reminder of the risks faced by community and stray cats, and of the importance of reporting animal cruelty when it occurs. If you are in the San Jose area and have information that could help, contact San Jose Animal Care & Services at 408-794-7297. (San Jose, CA)
