Sonoma County VegFest: Building Community, Growing Kindness 🌱💚

ACW had a wonderful time tabling at Sonoma County VegFest this past weekend. It was a joy to share our commitment towards a kinder world for animals and people alike.

🧵 Our table featured beautiful hand-embroidered pieces made by the talented artisans at Avirose. Every purchase supports their craft, in addition to funding our animal welfare initiatives.

🐘 Our Elephant Campaign was another key focus. We shared our plan to support a mechanical elephant for a temple in India, offering a safer, gentler alternative to live elephants in religious ceremonies. Proceeds from the “Sunder the Beautiful Elephant” book by our founder, Seema Vaid, will go directly toward building it – so each copy sold moves us closer to that goal.

📚 We also spoke with visitors about the exploitation of elephants for tourist rides at Amer Fort, and it was heartening to see so many connect with the issue and sign our petition calling for change.

VegFest was a celebration of community, too. 🌱✨ Delicious vegan food, thoughtful conversations, and reunions with longtime friends alongside new faces made the event truly memorable.

Four Cows, One Second Chance. 🐮

Sunitha Christy, our longtime rescue partner based in Virudhunagar, India, reached out to us with an urgent plea. The owner of four elderly dairy cows planned to sell them for slaughter, the sad fate that awaits most cows once they can no longer produce milk. 😥

This is where our team at A Compassionate World comes in: we provide the funding grassroots rescuers like Sunitha need to get animals out of harm's way. Time was short, so we moved fast to cover the cost of the cows and bring them home – thanks to generosity from donors like you. ❤️

Lovingly named Uma, Gauri, Tara, and Bhumi, they now live safely at her sanctuary. One of the cows could barely stand when she arrived, so Sunitha's team also brought in the necessary equipment to help her back on her feet. 🐄

Cows like these are bred into a life of milk production, then discarded once their bodies give out. 💔

Choosing oat, soy, almond, or another delicious plant-based milk is one of the simplest ways to stand against that cycle and make a difference through your choices. 💪

This past Saturday, our ACW community came together for a truly special fundraiser. It was incredibly poignant to see everyone unite behind our shared mission: making the world kinder for all living beings and fighting for a future where animals are free from cages, exploitation, and cruelty. 🐾✨

Our heartfelt thanks to Girija Rao, Ravi Rao, and their extended family for opening their doors and graciously hosting this wonderful community gathering. Everyone enjoyed the delicious home-cooked vegan food, made even sweeter by the amazing donuts and cakes generously donated by Amia Bakery, Newark and Petal and Spices, Santa Clara. 🍩🧁

A huge thank you to Avirose for the beautiful, handcrafted home goods and accessories that so many of you loved and supported. 🎨

This event was also a proud moment to highlight our Fashion with Compassion initiative. We were thrilled to showcase our gorgeous cruelty-free, vegan silk sarees made from plants by Hand and Yarns. By promoting these elegant alternatives, we are proving together that fashion does not have to rely on traditional, cruel practices. 🌿👗

We are immensely thankful for another successful community event! A special thank you to all our friends, supporters, and advocates who showed up to be a part of this.
