This past Saturday, our ACW community came together for a truly special fundraiser. It was incredibly poignant to see everyone unite behind our shared mission: making the world kinder for all living beings and fighting for a future where animals are free from cages, exploitation, and cruelty. 🐾✨

Our heartfelt thanks to Girija Rao, Ravi Rao, and their extended family for opening their doors and graciously hosting this wonderful community gathering. Everyone enjoyed the delicious home-cooked vegan food, made even sweeter by the amazing donuts and cakes generously donated by Amia Bakery, Newark and Petal and Spices, Santa Clara. 🍩🧁

A huge thank you to Avirose for the beautiful, handcrafted home goods and accessories that so many of you loved and supported. 🎨

This event was also a proud moment to highlight our Fashion with Compassion initiative. We were thrilled to showcase our gorgeous cruelty-free, vegan silk sarees made from plants by Hand and Yarns. By promoting these elegant alternatives, we are proving together that fashion does not have to rely on traditional, cruel practices. 🌿👗

We are immensely thankful for another successful community event! A special thank you to all our friends, supporters, and advocates who showed up to be a part of this.

🐶 33 beagle puppies can still be rescued – but time is running out.

These puppies were purchased for research by Comparative Biosciences after coming from Ridglan Farms, a Wisconsin breeding facility with a long history of documented animal welfare concerns. A licensed veterinarian reported widespread infections, Giardia, painful cage-biting injuries, and other severe medical conditions in dogs removed from the facility. These puppies deserve the chance to heal in loving homes – not in a research facility.

Public pressure matters. Every phone call, message, complaint, and share adds pressure for Comparative Biosciences to release these puppies to accredited rescue organizations where they can receive the care and freedom they deserve.

🐂 St. Petersburg has become the first city in Florida to ban rodeos, according to the Animal Legal Defense Fund. This decision marks an important step toward recognizing that animal suffering should not be entertainment.

Sadly, rodeos have long relied on events where baby calves, some only months old, are chased at full speed and roped, steers are wrestled to the ground, and bulls and horses are pushed to buck in front of cheering crowds. Behind the spectacle are animals experiencing fear, physical stress, and the risk of serious injury.

This doesn't have to continue.

By banning rodeos, St. Petersburg is helping ensure animals are no longer subjected to these events within city limits. It sends a powerful message that communities can choose compassion over cruelty, and other cities can do the same.

🐬 The ocean's giants and most extraordinary communicators are also among its most vulnerable inhabitants. 🐳

Whales and dolphins are intelligent, social animals that form deep family bonds. They play a vital role in keeping our oceans healthy, sustaining marine food webs, and supporting life on Earth.

Yet these remarkable marine mammals face countless threats including captivity, hunting, ship strikes, plastic and noise pollution, and entanglement in fishing gear.
One heartbreaking example is Taiji's annual dolphin hunting season in Japan, where hundreds of dolphin families are driven into an isolated cove. Young dolphins are torn away from their families and sold to marine parks for entertainment, while many of the remaining dolphins are slaughtered for meat, often in full view of their families. 💔

💔An 18-year-old tourist on vacation lost his life in a horse-drawn carriage crash. Just days earlier, a carriage horse collapsed and died while working in the same park.

Sadly, these were not isolated incidents. Horses have been spooking, bolting, and collapsing in New York City traffic for years while pulling carriages through blaring sirens, rush-hour crowds, and busy streets.

This doesn't have to continue.

Organizations like NYCLASS have long advocated for replacing horse-drawn carriage rides with electric carriages, offering a way to preserve the experience without putting horses or people at risk.

The impact of a story doesn’t end when the final page is turned.

We’re honored to share Kathleen Kastner Mortenson's review of Sunder The Beautiful Elephant by our founder, Seema Sharma Vaid.

As a fellow author with a passion for animal welfare and conservation, Kathleen recognizes the importance of using stories to inspire empathy and action. We are grateful for her support and for the opportunity to continue conversations around elephant welfare, wildlife conservation, and animal advocacy.

Sadly, elephants are held captive and exploited in tourism and temple settings, where their physical and emotional welfare are put at risk. ACW is working towards a more compassionate future by funding robotic elephants as alternatives for temple ceremonies, and advocating for an end to elephant rides at Amer Fort.

Thanks Live Freely Sanctuary for the support! May Sunder's story inspire many more people across the world ❤️💚🐘

Before Mike and I started the sanctuary, we did volunteer conservation work for elephants and sea turtles. We worked with a nonprofit to rescue hatchlings from disorientation due to light pollution. We brought awareness of poaching both for elephants and sea turtles. We fought against temple elephant abuse.
12 years ago, I founded a campaign to help free Sunder, a temple elephant, from abuse. Many amazing women joined me in leading the campaign. Sunder had a massive team behind him through nonprofits, celebrities, lawyers, and the public. He was eventually granted freedom to a sanctuary. His story changed my life.
I am so excited to share this children's book based on the true story of Sunder The Beautiful Elephant. This book was written by Seema Vaid. Seema and I got connected during Sunder's campaign. Sunder's story lead Seema to go vegan and found the nonprofit, A Compassionate World. Their mission is to inspire and empower individuals to make compassionate choices that benefit people, animals, and the planet.
A Compassionate World has sponsored medical care on multiple occasions for some of our rescues. I am so grateful to Seema and so happy to see Sunder's story live on and inspire future generations. This book is not only beautifully illustrated, but it teaches kindness, compassion, and action. All proceeds will directly fund initiatives that advance the welfare and freedom of elephants.
