Fresh Lifelines for Youth (FLY)

Fresh Lifelines for Youth (FLY) An award-winning Bay Area nonprofit working to interrupt the pipeline to prison for youth.

Founded in 2000, Fresh Lifelines for Youth (FLY) is an award-winning nonprofit serving Bay Area youth involved in the juvenile justice system and those at risk. We educate them about the law and their rights, give them positive mentors and role models, and support them to become leaders among their peers and in their communities. We are also committed to helping our juvenile justice systems become

more just, humane, and equitable. As a result, FLY increases safety in our communities and decreases the costs and consequences of crime. Our vision is for a country where all kids grow up valued and supported, and the pipeline to prison is replaced with meaningful opportunities for them to live healthy, free, and productive lives.

Kevin didn’t join FLY to change state policy, he joined because he wanted to make a difference in his community. At 18 Kevin became a member of flies youth advisory council that decision led him to the state Capitol being an integral part of becoming a law in 2025 ending limitless probation for 6000+ California youth annually and to a seat on the The Office of Youth and Community Restoration youth advisory board.
he is also a FLY Content creator, a college student and the founder of town visions documenting the side of Oakland that doesn’t always get seen.“ Change happens when young people are trusted supported and given space to lead our past does not define our future“
Kevin’s story is what investing in youth futures looks like. We are beyond proud of Kevin’s leadership and accomplishments and look forward to seeing what’s next in his journey.

The future looks FLY- Because of you. ✨
across California this graduation season young people are crossing stages, turning tassels and stepping into futures they worked hard to reach. Some of them came through FLY- 80% of our youth achieve their educational goals, and behind that number are real young people who were told in some way that this moment wasn’t for them.
They proved otherwise. 🎓
A generous anonymous donor is matching every gift to FLY dollar for dollar up to 100,000 through June 30.
Your gift doubles the moment it arrives help us close this year strong - give today and impact a lifetime. https://donorbox.org/eoy-campaign-fy26

A huge youth success we’re excited to share… 🎉

After months of planning for post-high school, Jordan, a FLY youth from SCC, recently earned not one, but TWO scholarships totaling more than $10,000!!!!!!

This win was made possible through the collaboration of his Career Pathways Navigator and then Case Manager (shoutout Valentine and Kayla 🙌🏽), who worked together to support with college exploration, scholarship research, campus tours, the application process, and much more.

What initially started as a $5,000 scholarship DOUBLED after the awarding foundation was so moved by Jordan’s story.

Congrats to Jordan and all the staff who helped make it possible! 💙

Happy Pride Month! 🏳️‍🌈✨🌈

Did you know LGBTQ+ youth make up an estimated 7–10% of all young people, yet account for about 20% of youth in the juvenile justice system? That means they are represented at more than twice their share of the general population. These numbers reflect the barriers many young people continue to face and point to the need for affirming spaces, supportive relationships, and opportunities for them to thrive.

At FLY, everyone belongs. We’re proud to celebrate and support LGBTQ+ youth this month and all year long!

Swipe for a list of Pride events happening across the Bay Area and find a way to celebrate, connect, and show up for community. 🏳️‍⚧️💜

Future CEO. Honor Roll. Future Entrepreneur.

This is who shows up to FLY’s Alameda middle school program.

These young people came to us navigating some of the hardest circumstances a middle schooler can face — instability at home, struggles in school, no clear path forward. What they all had in common: potential that nobody had fully seen yet.

One year of consistent, caring 1:1 support later — N is on track to graduate and talking about college. D made honor roll at his high school. M is saving to launch her own business.

97% of our middle school youth did not sustain new charges. 93% reported more hope for the future.

One program. One staff member. Everything on the line.

Right now, a generous donor is matching every gift to FLY dollar for dollar — up to $100,000 through June 30. That means every donation made this month will go twice as far to support young people like these three.

We’re raising $200,000 by June 30 to keep showing up for young people like these three. 🔗https://donorbox.org/eoy-campaign-fy26

Thank you to for another incredible Policy Briefing and Lobby Day! Our Youth Policy Fellows look forward to this event every year. It’s a powerful opportunity to bring their lived experience directly to legislators and advocate for real change. We are grateful to be in community with leaders across the state advancing justice for youth of color.

The looks FLY because of you!
Daisy came back to FLY because she never forgot what it felt like to belong somewhere. Now she's training as a credible messenger, raising two boys, and giving back to the next generation as a leader.🔥
She's proof of what's possible when a community shows up.
This season, we're inviting you to be part of that. Every gift before June 30 helps us reach young people like Daisy.
