Happy Holidays Optimistic Explorers!
It's been only 5 months since our launch and I hope that the experiences have inspired love, optimism, fulfillment, interpersonal connection, and community-in-action as much as it has for me. We have:
- created two impressive (over 4 feet tall) composts at Common Grounds using their Grow Biointensive method
- served homeless veterans with the American Red Cross at the VA Stand down
- cleaned up beaches and fields in Santa Cruz as part of the Annual International Coastal Cleanup Day, the single largest volunteer event on the planet - and had amazing burgers afterward
- tasted over a dozen dishes and beer at Eat Real food festival in Oakland
- prepared dinner for the runaway youths at Bill Wilson Center
- planted a winter garden with the children at Family Supportive Housing
- Fishing! (Thank you, Chris!)
- educated ourselves on our local water treatment system by attending the Wonders of Our Water plant tour
- took a day trip to the Hog Island Oyster Farm
- enjoyed Hawaiian food and dancing at the Island Summer Jam
- became a kid again at Sky High indoor trampoline
- generously donated nearly 100 pounds of healthy food to the Second Harvest Share Your Lunch Food Drive
Thank you so much for sharing your time and hearts with the world! I have quite a few adventures in the works for 2012, including learning about solar power, recycling, elephant seals, farm animals and volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. I'll share the details with you in the coming weeks so keep an eye out for them!
I hope you have a warm and loving holiday season and I look forward to seeing you in the new year!
