Dear CMEA Bay Section Membership,
As we wrap up the school year and head into summer break, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you for being part of CMEA Bay Section. Whether you attended our Fall Conference, brought students to one of our many festivals, or simply stayed connected as a member of the music education community, your involvement means so much. I am incredibly appreciative of all of our board members whose behind-the-scenes efforts are essential to the continued strength and success of Bay Section.
This spring our Large Group Festivals served over 550 ensembles across 25 sites! In addition, we were able to host Solo & Ensemble Festivals at San Jose State and CSU East Bay. I am grateful to all my colleagues who brought their groups, our site hosts, and to all of our adjudicators for their service.
We also made a big move by shifting our CMEA Bay Section Conference to the fall—and we’re thrilled to invite you to join us for this year's event, November 21–22, 2025 on the campus of San Jose State. In addition to our honor groups and sessions for Band, Choir, Jazz, and Orchestra teachers, we are expanding our professional development sessions to add a new strand fully dedicated to Elementary Classroom Music. Please help us spread the word!
I’m excited to introduce our new Bay Section Board members, who bring a wealth of experience and dedication to our team:
Dr. Kim Meider, Higher Education Representative
Kate Huizinga, Choral Representative (formerly Assistant Rep)
Kate Roseman, Choral Assistant Representative
Lotan Yeung, Area III Representative (formerly Assistant Rep)
Lucas Dandelet, Area III Assistant Representative
Chris Garcia, Area VIII Representative
Dr. Vu Nguyen, DEIA Representative (formerly Higher Ed Rep)
Edwin Cordoba, Area II Representative
Registration Day
Please mark September 1st as a “Registration Day” for all CMEA Bay Section events:
Fall Conference Registration
Honor Group Student Nominations
Large Ensemble Festivals (Band, Choir, Orchestra, Jazz) Registration
Solo & Ensemble Festivals Registration
Bay Section Award Nominations
My hope is that having everything organized in one place at the start of the school year will make planning easier for you and inspire even more people to take part in the great opportunities we offer.
Title I Resources & Outreach Program
Did you know CMEA Bay Section offers outstanding support and resources to teachers at Title I schools? Please let colleagues know we offer a "first group free" opportunity at CMEA festivals, reduced conference registration for teachers, conference honor group fee waivers for students, and more. Additionally we are working to again offer a mentor program for interested teachers. We are currently in the process of updating the website over the summer, and this information will be more accessible for all.
Wishing you a summer filled with rest, reflection, and renewed inspiration.
All my best,
Craig
