Downtown Streets Team Downtown Streets Team is ending homelessness through the dignity of work and the power of community

We believe that to effectively address homelessness we need compassionate and innovative leadership, paired with collaboration among social service agencies, government agencies, individual communities, and the private sector. Our model is simple: provide homeless and low-income men and women with the resources they need to rebuild their lives. First, they join one of our teams and begin working c

ollaboratively on beautification projects. In return, they receive a stipend in gift cards to help cover their basic needs, while taking advantage of our case management and employment services to find housing and a job. Our ultimate goal is to find our Team Members employment because having a job restores hope and opens the door to countless opportunities. IT’S A “WIN-WIN-WIN”
As one of our Team Members has said, what we’re doing is a “win-win-win” scenario: the Team Member wins, the environment wins and the community wins - it doesn’t get much better than that.

We are deeply moved by your response to our upcoming closure—it’s filled us with sadness, joy, and above all, immense gratitude. While this chapter comes to a close, the legacy of our staff, participants, and community supporters lives on through the countless lives impacted across our programs.

Many donors have asked how they can continue to support this important work. We have compiled a list of trusted local organizations and resources that are carrying the torch forward.

Visit www.streetsteam.org/dst-closure to view the comprehensive list. Thank you for continuing to champion our work.

Official Announcement: DST will be closing all operations effective 10/31/25.

After two decades of serving our unhoused neighbors, removing barriers to employment and housing while championing safe and clean communities, DST will sunset operations on October 31, 2025.

This decision was not made lightly. Despite incredible dedication from our staff, partners, and supporters, we can no longer sustain our programs in the current financial and political climate.

While this moment is incredibly difficult, it also offers an opportunity to reflect on the incredible impact we’ve made together. Thanks to your support and belief in our vision, thousands of program participants have transformed their lives through housing, employment, and community—2,215 people housed, 2,107 people employed, and 33M+ gallons of debris removed from our community. 🏠💛

These outcomes were only possible because of the extraordinary dedication of our staff, volunteers, donors, and partners. We are comforted knowing that many of our unhoused neighbors will continue to be supported by the vital work of our partner organizations. We will be winding down operations with care, ensuring that our Team Members (participants) are connected to the services and support they need to continue working toward their goals. Our teams are creating a list of resources to help bridge any service gaps, which will be published along with an official closure announcement on our website.

We are immensely grateful to you for believing in us, and in every Team Member, these past 20 years. Your part in this journey made our mission possible. DST’s impact will echo long into the future. ❤️‍🩹

🌟 Staff Spotlight: Kendall De Jong, Administration– Executive Assistant to the CEO

Kendall joined DST in 2023, bringing a diverse background in executive assistance, development and donor communications, journalism, marketing, sales, and general administration. She was approached by DST’s Interim CEO at the time and felt a strong alignment with the organization’s mission and community.

As Executive Assistant, Kendall plays a key role in ensuring the CEO’s time and priorities are managed effectively by overseeing her inbox, scheduling, and task prioritization. She also serves as a liaison to the Board of Directors—coordinating meetings, preparing board packets, and working closely with the Board Chair. In addition to facilitating leadership meetings and all-staff meetings, Kendall supports other executive staff and senior leaders by helping resolve issues, manage communications, and ensure contracts are executed. She also contribute to fundraising efforts by assisting with appeals alongside the Advancement team, and supports events and marketing. Her role involves a significant amount of administrative work, which she describes as “taking administrative work off [Leadership’s] plates to focus on running the organization and fulfilling our mission.”

Kendall goes to work each day knowing her contributions at DST make a real difference in people’s lives. She loves being part of a community deeply committed to helping others and giving those in need a second chance. Her favorite memory is attending her first weekly Success Meeting, where staff, participants, and community members come together to share resources and support. It was the first time she truly witnessed the magic of the meeting and the program in action.

Kendall’s diverse skillset continues to be utilized in the development department, which she hopes to expand on by diving deeper into donor communications and marketing.

We are so grateful for Kendall’s immense support and commitment to our work. Shoutout to Kendall! 💛
