This is Lead Delivery Specialist Arturo Garcia.
AFSCME Member Arturo “Art” Garcia has been on leave since shelter in place began March 2020 so he could stay home to take care of his two elementary age children. Thanks to his hard work and dedication to the Child Nutrition Services Department, Art still checks his work email and communicates with his team regularly.
Thanks to Art’s dedication and quick actions yesterday, Art noticed he received an email indicating the temperature of the freezer where all frozen goods for the Child Nutrition Services Department are stored was high. After notifying his department leads, the freezer contractor came out and determined the compressors in the coolers were fried, basically leading to the freezers no longer functioning.
After quick action, a refrigeration trailer was dropped off to the district office yard in order to house majority of the frozen items, thus saving not only tens of thousands of dollars, but tons of headaches and stress. Without hesitation and while still on a leave of absence and summer break, Art simply asked “What time do you need me there?”
Thank you for your dedication and service to our team Art!!!!! Now go enjoy your summer vacation.
Special shout out to AFSCME member Francisco Leyva for the assistance last night as well. Francisco is a Building Maintenence Worker who is on-call for emergencies this month. Thank you for your positive attitude, dedication, and hard work!
This is AFSCME, this is who we are!
