Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Had a Dream!

Dr. King was one of the leaders of the 1963 March on Washington where he delivered his “I have a Dream” speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. The civil rights movement achieved pivotal legislation in the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and the Fair Housing Act of 1968.

Dr. King cast the vision for race relations in America. His vision was that America would become a colorblind society. His vision led to affirmative action programs credited with leveling the playing field. King was a staunch believer in equal opportunity, not equal outcome.

Dr. King’s vision was to unify America. This vision gained momentum in colleges and universities throughout the land. His vision filtered down into high school and elementary schools. For the last 40 years of the 20th century, America moved toward the colorblind society that Dr. King envisioned.

His vision is under grave attack today.

Nobody alive today, regardless of ancestry, deserves any blame or credit for what happened in the past. Credit and blame belong only to the people who lived then......None of us alive today had anything to do with the accomplishments of the American Revolution or establishing the principles embodied in the Constitution.
We can only learn from the good and bad that happened in the past....

School Test Scores Down!

Well…no surprise! School test scores are down after pandemic school shutdowns!

According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), fourth and eighth grade scores have fallen dramatically.

In Santa Clara County, English Language Arts (ELA) scores fell to 39.4% of students NOT meeting standards. In Mathematics, 48.6% of students did NOT meet standards.

Just under half not meeting grade level standards for Math…in Silicon Valley…the technology capital of the world!

Getting the bang for your education buck!? Maybe it’s time to go back to the 3 R’s, instead of social curricula.

In many schools, civics education—education in American history and government, which is vital to preserving liberty—has been abandoned.

Try this quiz with a recent high school or even college graduate: How many U.S. Senators are there? And, if you really want to be disappointed, ask how many U.S. Representatives there are?

Time for parents to retake our schools and teach some values again!
