Based on community priorities and advocacy throughout the FY27 budget process, REAL Coalition is elevating these key priorities:
✔️ Protect essential safety-net services
✔️ Advance racial equity in budget decisions
✔️ Invest in cost effective prevention and early intervention
✔️ Alternatives to incarceration and reentry support
✔️ Protect immigrant communities
✔️ Transparency and meaningful community engagement

We call on County leaders to:
• Protect the communities most impacted by inequity

• Continue meaningful community engagement throughout implementation
• Ensure the Justice Services and Support Department is shaped through meaningful community engagement and co-design and doubles down on alternatives to policing and incarceration

Based on months of community and nonprofit engagement, we are elevating these key themes for consideration in the County's FY27 budget decisions:
✔️ Protect our high impact safety net
✔️ Avoid divestment from prevention and early intervention services
✔️ Preserve nonprofit infrastructure
✔️ Invest in trusted messengers and community connections
✔️ Protect services that prevent homelessness, hospitalization, and incarceration
✔️ Maintain meaningful community engagement in decision-making

We call on the Board of Supervisors to:
• Avoid eliminating entire community based service lines
• Provide thoughtful off-ramps for heavily impacted nonprofit partners

📢 TONIGHT is the final City of San José budget public hearing. We need community voices in the room.

City Council will vote on the FY27 budget, deciding funding allocations for housing, health, community safety, and vital nonprofit partnerships across the city.

REAL Coalition members, the SVCN team, and allies have advocated for a budget rooted in affordability, racial equity, prevention, and community stability. While there has been meaningful progress, several key decisions remain before the City Council.

This is our opportunity to ensure the Council hears directly from the communities most impacted by affordability challenges and historical inequity.

Give public comment in person or online—virtual public comment is back!

During a crisis, nonprofits need the support of their board of directors to navigate challenges with intentionality. This includes responding to internal changes like leadership transitions or financial strain, as well as the broader political context and its impact on stability, decision-making, and community relationships.

Join SVCN for a forward-looking workshop with Megan Joseph from Impact Launch on the skills boards need to be resilient, collaborative, and grounded in a complex political and funding landscape.

We’ll explore:
• How boards of directors can prepare for heightened polarization and political uncertainty
• Governance practices that strengthen community trust and reduce reputational risk
• What a “high-functioning” board looks like today

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our inaugural Nonprofit Convergence!

We’re still reflecting on — and, frankly, basking in — the connection, learning, and impact that filled the room as nonprofit folk, advocates, funders, and community leaders from across the Bay Area came together to learn, collaborate, and strengthen our collective work. From thoughtful conversations and inspiring speakers to moments of joy and community-building, this year’s gathering was a powerful reminder of the importance of coming together as a nonprofit community.

We’re deeply grateful to every attendee, presenter, sponsor, and volunteer who helped make Nonprofit Convergence such a meaningful experience. Your commitment to community and collective impact continues to move this work forward.

Affordable Housing Month is a chance to come together around solutions that strengthen and support our communities. Join SVCN and partners for a conversation on how the City of San José can address housing affordability through the upcoming City budget.

This event will explore affordability strategies currently being discussed, including the REAL Coalition’s STAY Affordability and Racial Equity Framework. Panelists will discuss how these approaches can work together to promote housing stability, prevent displacement, and help ensure San José is a place where working families, communities of color, older adults, and future generations can thrive.
