We are very excited to announce our new Job Development workshops for our program participants! Our career service coordinators and employment specialists will be collaborating to host these workshops to help participants develop their resumes, cover letters, interview skills, communication skills, and much more.

Studies have shown that when students are auditory learners, they may benefit from studying in a group setting because they need to hear and say things in order to learn new concepts. Since we do serve the neurodiverse community, many of our participants are auditory learners and can benefit from study groups and community workshops.

In this case, our participants are our students and we are teaching them skills that will enhance their chances to obtain and retain employment, which is our mission. Be sure to follow up with us if you have any questions about these workshops. We will be announcing our next workshop very soon!

We had an to host a Sensory-Friendly Interactive: Stations.

individuals experience their surroundings in different ways.  

For example,  

· Information can either be processed slower OR faster

· Sensations (feelings, sounds, smells, etc.) can be stronger OR weaker

As a result, people can experience either over- or under- stimulation, causing their surroundings to be overwhelming, distracting, or confusing.  

-friendly environments and tools help address challenges caused by these sensations and allow individuals to interact with and experience their environment in a more comfortable way. This enables individuals to reach their full potential!

Each experiences the world in a different way, so settings or tools might work better for some than others.

April is Neurodiversity Month, and as service providers for people on all sides of the spectrum, we’d like to take a moment to accept and appreciate one of our participants.

This is a picture of our program participant, Tarun. Tarun is neurodiverse but that doesn’t stop him from shining at his job. Tarun works for , an organization that develops programs that successfully support neurodiverse individuals through community integration, academic augmentation, and social experiential programs.

Tarun plays a pivotal role in Pragnya, as he publishes summaries of different articles on the company website. These articles range in topics from business and economic readings to sports and political readings. Tarun utilizes AI to formulate a basic understanding of the readings and then restructures and edits the writings to make them easier to comprehend.

Our job coaches are working closely with Tarun so that he can begin to take on new tasks such as social media management and website design. We are very fortunate to be connected with Pragnya, as we will be formulating workshops to inform participants and the public about important programs and opportunities for neurodiverse communities!

Just because someone is neurodiverse doesn’t mean they’re not able to process and retain information. People with an intellectual or developmental disability have the ability to accomplish great things and we expect nothing less than that from our program participants. When the world says No, we say Yes.

I'm reaching out with an to make a real and having a blast while doing it! 🎉 Goodwill of Silicon Valley is gearing up for our annual Goodfest Event, and we need your incredible energy and heartwarming spirit to help us make it unforgettable.

🗓️ Save the date: October 7, 2023, from 10 am to 2 pm. This is when the magic happens at GoodFest – our cherished carnival/festival dedicated to celebrating the Santa Clara County community and the fantastic people at Goodwill of Silicon Valley.
