Please join us outside San Jose City Hall, 200 E Santa Clara St, San Jose, CA 95113 on November 20th at 6pm as we hold vigil for our transgender siblings who have been lost to violence this year.

The event will move online if heavy rain is forecast, with a link to be posted once that info is available.

San Jose Transgender Day of Remembrance is held each year on November 20th and is put on by members of the local transgender community. To further community awareness and better support our trans siblings a website and social media accounts have been started in hopes of moving beyond a once yearly event.

"Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) was started in 1999 by transgender advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith as a vigil to honor the memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was killed in 1998. The vigil commemorated all the transgender people lost to violence since Rita Hester's death, and began an important tradition that has become the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance."

Black Lives Matter. Trans Lives Matter. Black Trans Lives Matter. One cannot ignore how black trans women & black non-cisgendered bodies are disproportionately attacked, murdered, disenfranchised—othered.

This must end. None of us are free until our community members are all free.

Get loud. Be unapologetically loud. Their names will never be forgotten. Their stories only fuel the fire that keeps us fighting.

A 2015 study by the National Center for Transgender Equality found that 54% of Trans people has experienced some form of intimate partner violence. How is it this happens?

Have we embedded in our minds that by somehow abuse is part of our experience of love as a Trans or non-cisgendered person?

LIES. Love is not meant to hurt. Our community members DESERVE to be loved—not compromised love dressed up in the form of abuse.

Being Trans does not mean you are less deserving of genuine love. Remember that.

Trans & non-cisgendered folks—your voices DESERVE to be heard. Your struggle, plight, stories, and lived-experiences must not be shoved into the dark. Your beautiful voice is meant to be heard.

Because truth is expressed through the power of your voice. Can’t speak? Then write.

There is an energy within you that is meant to be expressed. Your community needs you.

Find out why, find out how:

Some cis-gendered people have a penchant for bullying, discriminating, oppressing, and stripping the dignity of Trans & non-cisgendered persons.

Their “Transphobia” isn’t a phobia at all. It’s a complete example of their toxic ignorance passed onto them. People aren’t born “transphobic”—they’re taught it.

Ignorant bigots are the most dangerous in society. So why are Trans & non-cisgendered people the ones being stamped out?

Let’s change this. Visit www.sjtdor.org

Dating as Trans or Non-Cisgendered has its challenges. Some dating platforms don’t affirm different gender identities.

Even more insidious, are partners who put us through the emotional boxing ring. Loving us in the shadows, but afraid to hold our hands—or be seen with us—in public.

It can often feel like we carry the “weight of the world” on our shoulders. Having to be the teacher, the guide, the bigger person, the strong one…even if we don’t feel that way.

Our suggestion: it is never your job to convince others your worth. You ALREADY ARE worthy!

Engage only with those who treat you at the standard you would treat yourself.

HRC (The Humans Rights Campaign | ) released the fact: halfway into 2021, 29 Trans & Gender Expansive people were killed or fatally shot.

Brutally murdered. For being who they are. Does this make any sense?

When did authenticity become warrant of murder? Hint: authentic people frighten those who can’t be authentic with themselves. And so, they attempt to s***f us out.

We must fight back. It is our goal to reduce that unacceptable number, down to zero.

STOP THE DEATHS : TRANS LIVES MATTER
