What people don’t see is everything that happens after a family walks through our doors.

Case management is the steady, behind-the-scenes work that turns a short-term stay into long-term stability. It looks like one-on-one meetings, goal-setting, navigating housing applications, connecting families to employment support, childcare, healthcare, and financial resources.

Before: Families arrive in crisis, juggling uncertainty, stress, and limited options.
After: Families leave with housing plans, stronger financial footing, and ongoing support to help them remain stable long after their shelter stay ends.

This is the work that doesn’t always show up in photos—but it’s what makes lasting change possible.

February – Families First

At the center of our work are families with children who need stability, safety, and a path forward. Maria, a mother of two elementary-aged children, came to us after months of housing instability that had begun to affect her children’s school attendance and her ability to keep steady work. Her youngest son’s teacher had recently flagged increasing absences and difficulty concentrating in class. With short-term shelter, consistent case management, and support securing permanent housing, the family stabilized and the children returned to regular routines within weeks. Outcomes like this are reflected in our data: 83% of families exit our shelter to permanent housing, with an average length of stay of 150 days—demonstrating that with focused, coordinated support, families can regain stability and move forward in a relatively short period of time.

40 years of helping families find stability

Since our founding, one belief has guided our work. Families experiencing homelessness need more than a place to sleep. They need stability, dignity, and consistent support to move forward. What began four decades ago as a response to a clear gap has grown into a comprehensive approach that helps families move from crisis to long-term independence.

Over the coming year, we will reflect on the impact built over 40 years, including what we have learned, how the work has evolved, and why stability remains the foundation for everything that follows. We will share stories, milestones, and lessons from across the decades, while keeping our focus firmly on the families we serve today and the work still ahead. Forty years in, we are still moving forward, guided by families, strengthened by community, and committed to creating pathways to lasting stability.
