Please spread the word! Journeymen Ashevilles Rites of Passage Adventure Weekend (for teen boys!) is fast approaching! Link to learn more and to register in the comments!

For millennia, our ancestors marked young men’s transition into adulthood through well-planned and challenging rites of passage.

Rites of passage initiations were never just a formality or a threshold.

These tests put boys and young men in uniquely challenging situations where they had to learn about their inner strengths and gifts in order to succeed.

What’s more, these rites of passage infuse their natural drive for freedom and risk with a sense of personal responsibility!

Unfortunately, in today’s culture, these intentional rites of passage for young men and boys entering adulthood have been almost completely lost.

As a result, young men and boys today are more likely to “initiate” themselves in unhealthy ways, like their first experiences with drugs, alcohol, and s*x, as well as excessive video gaming, screen time, and social isolation.

In this age of disconnection and overstimulation, where depression, social anxiety, academic struggles, and a lack of belonging are rampant among young men and boys, the obstacles to their healthy development are massive, and for parents, these challenges can seem insurmountable.

That’s why we firmly believe that today, the need for constructive, intentional, and positive rites of passage for young men and boys is greater than ever.

It has been a wild time here since hurricane Helene, almost impossible to fathom or imagine the extent of the 1,000+ years of geological-scale changes in landscape and life that happened in a single day on the morning of Sept 27th.

I've made a few posts with more of the details, so I won't repeat them now ...

But to say that we went to bed on Sept 26th in one reality, and woke up on Sept 27th in a completely new one. A full quantum reality leap.

This kind of change is far beyond a weather event, or even a geological event.

What happened was a mass timeline shift, a complete change-up in the underlying reality structures and energetic templates that guide life.

It has taken me weeks to really integrate this, and after talking to many dozens of people, to understand that our entire community, almost without exception, has not quite landed in the new timeline. Or, back in their bodies yet.

Modern psychology calls this "shock", "dissociation" and "PTSD".

But from an ecosomatic and biomantic perspective, it's more accurate to say we have fallen out of time and place. Folks are feeling raw and stripped bare, like the riverbeds around us; and "un-grounded" and uprooted, like so many trees.

Because our body is the landscape, because there is no separation.

When we approach trauma from a bigger perspective, it gives us powerful new tools to become whole, more in line with the approaches of the Elder and indigenous peoples across time.

Because "healing" isn't about removing or erasing a trauma from our psyche, or over-focusing on the trauma.

It is a process of deep organic reconnection, at the intersection of body, time, memory and quantum reality (which I sometimes call "magic").

In this light, I've been offering free in-person Ecosomatic healing sessions , and a group sound healing / grief circle at the Wild Human Preserve (in photos)

What folks are saying is that it is generating profound shifts -- helping them feel structured, grounded, organized, more themselves; feeling safe enough so they can finally grieve, even from events far beyond the recent traumas; experiencing their creative energies flowing again; feeling their kinship with the Earth and ecosystem in a much deeper way.

We must co-regulate with the Earth, because we share a nervous system with her.

When we reconnect to Gaian time and to our deep soma, ecology and memory, we become BIG -- resourced, resilient, regenerative, rhythmic -- and the trauma becomes small.

It is so simple, so powerful ... and very much the future (and ancient past) of somatics.
