https://www.commonsensemedia.org/appinstall We believe that media has truly become "the other parent" in our kids' lives, powerfully affecting their mental, physical, and social development. We believe in teaching our kids to be savvy, respectful and responsible media interpreters, creators,

and communicators. We can’t cover their eyes but we can teach them to see. We believe parents should have a choice and a voice about the media our kids consume and create. We believe that the price for free and open media is a bit of extra homework for families. Parents need to know about the media their kids use and need to teach responsible, ethical behavior as well as manage overall media use. We believe that through informed decision making, we can improve the media landscape one decision at a time. We believe appropriate regulations about right time, right place, and right manner exist. They need to be upheld by our elected and appointed leaders. We believe in age-appropriate media and that the media industry needs to act responsibly as it creates and markets content for each audience. We believe ratings systems should be independent and transparent for all media. We believe in diversity of programming and media ownership.

When school ends, the day opens up. That usually means more downtime, more “I’m bored,” and yes, more screens. 😬

Common Sense Media and Aura for Parents have built the Summer Survival Guide to help families make that time a little more intentional. Every Sunday for eight weeks, we’ll add a fresh set of expert-picked books, shows, movies, and podcasts to the Common Sense Media app. Plus, get smart screen-time ideas and practical tips and tools designed for summer’s looser routines.

Families can also try Aura’s ‘90s Summer Quiz to bring some of that time offline with activities, crafts, and analog games based on your kid’s favorite apps and digital platforms—find the quiz at the link in our bio!

This practical, parent-friendly guide is an easy way to keep kids curious, entertained, and learning just enough while still leaving room for boredom, bike rides, and whatever they’re building out of couch cushions.

While everyone’s gearing up for Knicks vs. Spurs game tonight, do you remember when Nikola Jokic laughed at Wemby for reading in the locker room? Wemby’s response? “I read before every game.”

That’s the energy we’re here for. Turns out there’s actual science behind it—just 6 minutes of reading can reduce stress by up to 68%. So if it works for one of the best players in the NBA, imagine what it can do for your kid. Find the perfect book for your family on CommonSenseMedia.org or through our app. 🏀📖

Ever bailed on a family movie halfway through because of a joke that definitely wasn’t meant for kids?

We rated The Cat in the Hat 9+ because the adult humor is real. And here’s the thing: only you know what’s right for your family. Some parents roll with it, some turn it off—both are completely valid.

But if you do turn it off, that’s actually a powerful moment. You’re showing your kid exactly what it looks like to trust your gut when something feels off. If they ask why, keep it simple: “Some things are made for grown-ups—let’s find one made for us.”

Drop every movie you’ve ever turned off in the comments 👇

Has your kid talked about The Amazing Digital Circus?

Know before you go—despite the colorful characters, it’s rated 12+ for a reason. Great for older tweens and teens, just maybe leave the little ones at home for this one. Head to our website or app to read the full review on the last episode + the entire series!
