Society for Africans in the Diaspora

Society for Africans in the Diaspora An institution that provides art, culture, connection and enrichment through educational and community building programs for Africans in the Diaspora.

Established in 2019, Society for Africans in Diaspora (SAiD Institute) is a non-profit institution that provides art, culture, connection and enrichment through educational and community building programs for Africans in the Diaspora. Based in Houston, Texas, SAiD Institute is uniquely positioned as one of few spaces for creatives and freethinkers to focus exclusively on African culture across the

global diaspora, and to present the rich cultural heritage of the people of African descent. SAiD Institute is proud to be a space where one can explore and discover the culture, history, art, and multi-faceted contributions of African people. SAiD Institute has worked tirelessly to raise awareness about Africa among Americans and to strengthen relations between Africa and the United States. This is accomplished by our educating the public in the study of the African narrative, cultures, leadership and achievement. We also foster African-America partnership, friendship and cross-cultural exchange through select tours in Africa and the United States, as well as host lectures, conferences, awards and other events on both side of the Atlantic. Since inception, Said is proud to have impacted over 1 million individuals through our events and activities; 29 businesses through community development projects; partnered with nearly 650 leaders to strengthen communities of the diaspora; and engaged over 200 creatives through creative expression programs. Society for Africans in the Diaspora (SAiD Pan African Library) Based in Houston, Texas, SAiD Pan African Library is uniquely positioned as one of few spaces for creatives and freethinkers to focus exclusively on African culture across the global diaspora, and to present the rich cultural heritage of the people of African descent. The gateway to dispelling ignorance is education; to that end, Society for Africans in Diaspora serves an expansive mission to educate the public in the study of African narratives, cultures, leadership and its achievements. We are committed to fostering a mutual and communal understanding and strengthening partnerships among people, leaders and institutions of Africa, and the United States. Through a comprehensive network of educational programs and events meant for participants of all ages, SAiD Institute is the catalyst for the promotion of Africans in the diaspora. We see ourselves as the voice of global Africans crossing through the fields of arts, business, culture and education. In tandem with an array of collaborative partners in New York and Houston where SAiD Pan African Library is physically housed and implemented, we are blazing a trail for the emergence of African leaders, social influencers and global citizens to positively inspire and influence the generations of today and tomorrow.

SAID Institute is thrilled to feature this year’s guest, Yajira Writes as she voices her anticipation for our annual Passport to Africa gala on May 24th.

“We now have the ability to build back better, together. Stronger together. Pamoja as we say it in Swahili. Tuko pamoja, we are together.” - Yajira Writes

We at SAID Institute invite you for a special opportunity to stand in solidarity and community together. As Yajira has noted, we can only be stronger when we come together as a united nation.
