Youth Leadership Institute yli strives to build a world in which youth are leading & creating equitable communities

05/28/2026

On April 30th, young people from across California stepped up to ask bold questions and make their voices heard at Our Future, Our Voice: A youth-led gubernatorial forum!

From education and mental health to climate change and economic opportunity, youth led the conversation on the issues shaping their futures. 💥

Huge thank you to everyone who showed up, spoke out, tuned in, and helped make this event so powerful. Special thanks to our partners California State PTA and Policy Analysis for California Education for helping create a space where youth voice was centered every step of the way. 🙌🏽

🚨 Community voice is on the chopping block!!

Governor Gavin Newsom is proposing to cut funding to mental health services that help young people, LGBTQ+ communities, immigrant communities, and directly impacted people.

You cannot solve a mental health crisis without listening to the people living through it. Period.

Young people across California have spent years organizing, advocating, sharing their stories, and fighting for accessible mental health support for ALL communities. Their voices deserve to be heard, not cut from the budget.

We need California leaders to reject these cuts and protect the $6.7 million that keeps community advocacy alive. ✊🏽

Community voice saves lives. Don’t silence it! Help us save these crucial programs by emailing your representative and sharing this post!
