They've provided nearly $4 billion to Freeport LNG alone – which is why Texas organizers traveled to Japan to file formal complaints with these banks.

For over 15 years, Belo Sun has been seeking to establish the Volte Grande gold mine on the banks of the Xingu River. If approved, it will affect 125 hectares (309 acres) of the rainforest and displace 813 families – many of whom are already affected by the Belo Monte dam.

The project has continuously been contested but a Brazilian court is set to rule on the project this week.

A lot of so-called "green" technologies rely on nickel – like EV batteries and wind turbines. The way this nickel is being mined is driven by profit-maxing not by a genuine concern for the planet. In fact, the impact of nickel mining is destroying the environment and negatively impacting communities.

In Indonesia, where much of this nickel is mined, the health impacts are stark. In the Central Sulawesi district of Morowali, home to Southeast Asia’s largest nickel processing facility, 57,190 people were diagnosed with respiratory infections in 2024.

The First Conference on Transitioning Away From Fossil Fuels brought in a new kind of climate conference – one that gets at the root of the problem. The conference moved beyond whether a fossil fuel transition is needed and focused on how to actually implement it. It also uplifted the role of Indigenous peoples, labor groups, and civil society organizations in moving forward a ❤️‍🔥

Traveling back to Bogotá from the First Conference on Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels in Santa Marta, Colombia, I struggled to name a feeling I had never experienced after a climate conference: hope!

Courageous people across the globe are taking action every day to stop business-related human rights and environmental harms, despite increasing restrictions on civic freedoms and the risk of attacks.

This major new analysis from Business and Human Rights Centre unpacks the global scope and scale of attacks – the highest number in the past 5 years. They found that there were nearly 800 attacks on human rights and environmental defenders in 2025. Thirty percent of those were against Indigenous people, who only make up 6% of the world's population.

In March, we joined frontline community leaders and climate activists to confront , the Super Bowl of oil and gas conferences. There, in Houston, TX, fossil fuel executives were making decisions behind closed doors that impact all of us. But outside, we were making our voices heard.

We specifically called out methane gas (LNG) expansion across the Gulf Coast which is threatening the health, safety, and livelihoods of Texas and Louisiana communities. Enough putting profit over people – the Gulf is not a sacrifice zone!

Indigenous leaders from across the and Latin America are speaking up against organized crime – including illegal mining, drug trafficking, and logging. This week, they sent a letter to the UN stating that criminal networks are driving violence and accelerating environmental destruction.

But they don't want the solution to be increased militarization. Instead, they want to strengthen Indigenous sovereignty and governance to continue acting as stewards of the forest. ✊🌳
