🔥 🚨 Kalimantan is on fire 🚨🔥

In just one day, fire hotspots DOUBLED in West Kalimantan, from 3,553 to 7,377, while active fires increased by 88 to 104. There are over 5,000 hotspots in Central Kalimantan, and more all across Indonesia.

The haze has caused more than ​50,000 cases of acute respiratory infection, according to Indonesia’s Health Ministry. Children are especially vulnerable.

Kalimantan is especially impacted because the peatland here is dry, causing the fires to spread very quickly. Industrial expansion for palm oil and timber means swampy peatlands get cleared and drained, making them more vulnerable to fire.

Satellites have revealed 42 companies hold land concessions with high fire potential. The only way to stop the fires for good, is to hold these destructive companies accountable, and prevent future expansion!

A major climate disaster is underway in Nepal and Tibet. Last weekend, a flood barreled through a Himalayan river valley, killing over 900 people, with an additional 4,500 missing.

The Himalayas have been particularly impacted by climate change, with the glaciers in the mountains melting. This has also left cracks in the mountain where permafrost used to be, making it more vulnerable to seismic activity.

"The mountains are literally crumbling ... what happened this time, it seems, is that the rocks, the bedrock underneath the glacier, gave way. So, it came down with the rocks, and the ice on top of it, into the valley below, into a river, that then flowed into Nepal" –Kunda Dixit, Nepali Times

Our natural resources are under attack. The Trump administration is seeking to open the Grand Staircase-Escalante and Bears Ears National Monument to mining, logging, and oil and gas leasing, cutting nearly 3 million acres out from the protected area. On top of this, the administration is opening the buffer zone surrounding Chaco Canyon in New Mexico to oil and gas leasing.

As our cultural heritage sites, critical ecosystems, and climate get continuously threatened, Trump's industry buddies get richer. Shame!

The assault on Chaco Canyon, Bears Ears, and other sacred lands is a blatant continuation of America’s centuries-long campaign against Native people.

In the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the forest has been transformed by wildfire. All the stands now is a brown shrubland. This is a growing phenomenon across the West, as wildfires grow more intense – studies estimate that 40% of Western conifer forests will turn into shrubland by 2100.

One tactic scientists are using is testing trees for climate-resistance and planting their seedlings in the deforested areas.

Towering woodlands in the West are being permanently replaced by tracts of spiky shrubs. Conditions “just aren’t normal anymore,” one researcher said.

South Sumatra, Indonesia is experiencing deadly wildfires with 1,429 detected by Environment Ministry satellites. 1,226 fires have been detected in West Kalimantan with 811 in Central Kalimantan.

These fires have been driven by El Niño, a pro-longed dry season, and forest clearing for industrial expansion.

Indonesia deploys prayers and emergency measures to combat South Sumatra's raging wildfires and hazardous haze.

Dutch bank ING has been caught in a lie – in 2024, the bank committed to stop financing oil and gas companies developing new fields, and to drop clients who aren't doing enough to transition to net zero.

But research shows the bank provided $908 million to 3 companies that are drilling or intending to develop new oil fields in the North Sea. Shame!

The devastating mercury crisis in Grassy Narrows First Nation has persisted for decades, ever since 9 tonnes of mercury was dumped upstream in the 1960s, with little action from governments to help the people. To this day, Grassy Narrows people do not get fair compensation for the serious impacts of the crisis.

To make matters worse, Ontario is still allowing the Dryden mill to make the mercury problem worse through ongoing pollution in its effluent. Meanwhile, proposals for new mines and a nuclear waste disposal site upstream threaten to make things worse.

Grassy Narrows and allies won't stop until they have the good life that they enjoyed before mercury. Come out to show your support!
