Biodiversity destruction has a human cost. Our new report with documents financing linked to land grabbing, pollution, dangerous working conditions and violations of Indigenous Peoples’ rights, driven by the mining and agricultural industries.

These industries have garnered $595 BILLION since 2020, with 60% of that going towards agricultural commodities, and 40% towards mineral mining. Financial institutions must be held accountable!

Banks can’t claim to protect nature while financing companies linked to deforestation, peatland destruction, pollution and human rights abuses.

We know where the money is going. We know the risks. And we know voluntary commitments aren’t closing the gap. Governments can require financial institutions to align their money with biodiversity goals. We need strong No Peatland, Deforestation, Exploitation (NDPE) policies, independent verification and consequences for repeat offenders.

NEW REPORT: Banks have poured USD $595 billion into high-risk mining and agribusiness across the tropics since 2020. Annual lending and underwriting to mining companies operating in these regions rose ​55% since 2016, and it rose 71% for agricultural commodities.

The result: annual fires and toxic haze, ecosystems on the brink of collapse and widespread human rights abuses.

The Supreme Court is hearing "Suncor Energy v. Boulder County," which will determine whether communities can hold oil & gas companies financially responsible in state court for fueling climate change.

This case stems back to 2018, when Boulder County sued Suncor Energy and Exxon, alleging that they cause costly damage to Boulder's climate. Boulder has already spent over $100 million repairing climate damage.

We're on Boulder's side with this one: polluters must pay!

State courts might be the last, best hope for holding polluters accountable.

In first half of this year alone, at least 1.5 million acres (over 607,000 hectares) of forest burned in . And with Super El Niño strengthening, the worst may be yet to come. Meanwhile, Indonesians risk their health and lives to fight fires and protect their homes and their livelihoods.

As the climate crisis worsens across the globe we should approach climate action with the same sense of urgency and bravery. It is all of our responsibility to stop this crisis.
