MEET THE ARTIST: Jeanne Choe ☀️

We are proud to spotlight Jeanne Choe and her piece, “Stitches” currently featured in the OVERTIME26 exhibit at the Center for Architecture & Design. Visit us at 140 Sutter St. (our Center) to check it out.

This was one of the first pieces, where the count and the fit seemed to come together. Her medium is paper and thread. Each piece is hand-stitched and hand-plotted, celebrating slowness in a fast world. And the calm and comfort brought by making.

Jeanne is proud Bay Area-born native, a designer by trade, her balance is brought into scope by being a maker, baker, and tinkerer by want. She has a need to constantly create, to figure stuff out, see how it works, and make something out of a pile of supplies. She has a drive to create, and it is never “one and done”.

MEET THE ARTIST: Jim Zack ☀️

We are proud to spotlight Jim Zack and his piece, “Hoop Chair and Stool” currently featured in the OVERTIME26 exhibit at the Center for Architecture & Design. Visit us at 140 Sutter St. (our Center) to check it out.

The Hoop Chair was an exercise in craft and simplicity. The design evolved from the designers goal to use materials on hand - Aluminum tube and a sheet of aluminum perf. A chair should be comfortable, formally interesting, well crafted, and in this case very light and multi-functional, it can be used indoors or out. The original version of this chair was made in the shop at Wurster Hall, UC Berkeley. This chair was acquired by SF MOMA for the permanent collection in the mid-'90's.

Jim Zack, a California native, and modernist, has the hands on experience of a builder, the craft sensibility of a furniture maker, and the rational, thoughtful approach of an architect- his projects have an obsessive, expressive attention to spatial clarity, materiality, detail and craft. He is the founder of Zack/de Vito Architecture + Construction, an San Francisco based firm specializing in the design and making of buildings, interiors and furniture.
