Environmental stewardship often starts in daily life. 🏡

Across Indonesia, communities are growing food, restoring coastlines, managing forests, and creating livelihoods connected to the environments around them.

Their work looks different from one landscape to another, but it is rooted in a shared commitment to caring for the places they call home.

This World Environment Day, we celebrate communities whose knowledge, leadership, and everyday actions are helping shape a more sustainable future. 🌏

🌐 As technology and AI continue to change the way we live and work, one question remains: how can more people benefit from the opportunities they create?

At the 2026 Asia Symposium in Wellington, we shared how the Future Skills Alliance is helping address this challenge by working with governments, businesses, and partners to expand access to skills training and opportunities for the jobs of the future.

Because building a digital future isn't just about technology—it's about helping people adapt, participate, and thrive. 🤝

🖼️ Meet the 2026 Margaret F. Williams Memorial Fellows in Asian Art!

In partnership with the Asian Art Museum, The Asia Foundation is supporting two emerging curators for a residency and professional exchange in San Francisco.

This year’s fellowship explores community-centered curatorial practice, bringing together Sso-Rha Kang and Yi Shun Lim as they examine how art can foster community-building, dialogue, and engagement.

Over the next three months, the fellows will deepen their curatorial practice, engage with global peers, develop original projects, and advance their research through this unique international exchange.

In Oddusuddan, Sri Lanka, accessing essential welfare and protection services no longer means going from office to office and repeating your story.

🤲 A new Social Care Centre is bringing services together in one place, making support faster, more coordinated, and more dignified. Some of these include:

• Women and child protection
• Disability assistance
• Elder care
• Livelihood support

Through our long-standing partnership with the Australian Government (Australian High Commission, Sri Lanka), this centre is helping make care more accessible—closer to people, and designed around their needs.

At the 2026 Asian Leadership Conference 아시안 리더십 콘퍼런스 in Seoul, we joined conversations on some of the important issues shaping the region today—from energy security and AI, to leadership in a rapidly changing global environment.

Moderated by TAF President and CEO Laurel E. Miller, one discussion explored how countries are navigating evolving energy needs, resilient supply chains, and the growing importance of critical minerals, with insights from former U.S. Members of Congress Bart Gordon, Donna Edwards, and Bill Flores. 🔋⚡️

Another session highlighted the role of women leaders across politics, diplomacy, and public life, featuring speakers including former New Zealand Prime Minister Dame Jenny Shipley and former Ambassador for Feminist Foreign Policy of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs Delphine O. 🤝

Across both dialogues, participants reflected on the importance of cooperation, responsive leadership, and continued exchange in addressing shared regional and global challenges.

It takes a village to raise a child who loves to read. 📖

In Ulaanbaatar, nurturing children's reading habits goes beyond schools and teachers. Parents, caregivers, and the broader community are coming together to make reading part of everyday life—from homes to public libraries, community centers, and even parks.

Together with the Ministry of Education and the Lorinet Foundation, our Let's Read program in Mongolia is helping strengthen these efforts through:

📝 Training for teachers and caregivers
📚 Access to quality children's books
📣 Public awareness campaigns
📜 Policy collaboration on foundational learning and literacy

To date, we're seeing more children engage with books, along with improvements in language development and socio-emotional growth—showing what's possible when we're .

Cambodia is taking an important step toward developing its first National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security (WPS). 🇰🇭

Last week, the Ministry of Women's Affairs of Cambodia brought together government agencies, institutions, and development partners to help shape a strategic roadmap that reflects the experiences and needs of women and communities across the country. 🤝

Through the regional AMPLIFY program, we partnered with UN Women to support the convening and dialogue, contributing to ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration and regional learning on WPS across Southeast Asia.

AMPLIFY is supported by the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Last week, we hosted the Mekong Futures Dialogue in Canberra, bringing senior voices from Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam into conversation with Australian counterparts on the questions shaping the region today.

Serving as a bridge between regional perspectives and Australia’s policy conversations is central to our work in Australia, especially as countries across the Mekong navigate complex decisions on energy, economic resilience, institutions, and regional cooperation amid a rapidly changing global environment.

We are grateful to everyone who participated, shared insights openly, and contributed to thoughtful and constructive discussions throughout the day.
