Yesterday, Teamsters California with a Coalition of Labor Unions announced that the California Billionaire Tax has qualified for the November ballot.

Teamsters California Co-Chair Victor Mineros said, “This is a monumental day for workers across California. For far too long billionaires have been rigging the system to work for them not working Californians. The same billionaires driving up the costs of housing and groceries want their workers to pay more for healthcare every time we sit down at the bargaining table; now they want working people to pay even more for healthcare so they can get even more in tax breaks. Teamsters California stands united in the fight to finally make billionaires pay their fair share.”

This week Teamsters California joined Assembly Majority Leader Cecilia Aguiar-Curry, Assemblymember Damon Connolly and a coalition of labor, small business, consumer, and economic justice leaders to introduce Assembly Bill 1776 — the Competition and Opportunity in Markets for a Prosperous, Equitable and Transparent Economy (COMPETE) Act.

The COMPETE Act will update California’s antitrust laws to reflect today’s economy and provide clear, predictable standards that support innovation, responsible growth, and fair competition.
