21 days until the election. We have a chance to save lives and tax billionaires this November.

Prop 40 is a lifeline for millions of working families across California. Prop 40 will fill the $100 billion funding gap caused by cuts from the federal government to our states healthcare.

Prop 40 will prevent working people from losing healthcare and will stop massive closures and cuts to hospitals and clinics in our communities.

The General Election is less than one month away and your mail-in ballot has been sent to you.

Reminders for voting:
🗳️Every registered voter in California will be sent a vote-by-mail ballot.
✍️Remember to vote all of the offices and measures on your ballot, put your ballot back in the prepaid envelope then seal and sign the envelope.
📮Once you have voted you can send your ballot to your local election department with the prepaid envelope by dropping it any post office or official ballot drop box in your community.

Today, priority bills on AI, co-sponsored by Teamsters California, were signed into law.

The bills are AB 1331 (Elhawary), AB 1883 (Bryan),
SB 947 (McNerney) and SB 951 (Reyes).

This strong legislative package is just the beginning of our work to deliver cutting edge policies that implement responsible guardrails on AI and ensure our cities and states protect workers and good middle class jobs.

Teamsters California will continue to be a leader in developing policies alongside our lawmakers that prioritize working people.

A statement from Teamsters California Co-chairs, Peter Finn and Victor Mineros on the signing of Assembly Bill 1776, the COMPETE Act, into law, “Today, as AB 1776 was signed into law, working Californians should remember this momentous day as a win that was carried by workers, who stood united for months in the fight to hold greedy corporations accountable despite multimillion-dollar efforts by opposition to defeat the bill. California is no longer a playground where billionaire bullies can bend century-old antitrust law in their favor, while workers paid the price. Teamsters California proudly co-sponsored this legislation from day one because we have, and always will be, leaders in delivering policies that protect working people and hold greedy corporations accountable. We want to thank Majority Leader Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry for her courage to take on complex issues that are affecting working people across California and never wavering from the fight to ensure policies in Sacramento put working people first.”

Senate Bill 1371, authored by María Elena Durazo, has been signed into law in California.

Contracts between cities and waste haulers often include a “force majeure” clause, which excuses the hauler from penalties when service is disrupted by events outside its control, like natural disasters. Many haulers have written labor disputes into that clause, letting them skip collections during a strike or lockout without consequence.

SB 1371 closes that loophole. Labor disputes can no longer qualify as force majeure, so waste companies remain responsible for meeting their contract obligations to the communities they serve, even during a work stoppage. That means haulers can no longer drag out a dispute at the public’s expense while workers take the blame.

This year, Teamsters California took on a bold legislative package focused on protecting workers, good Union jobs and holding Big Tech and corporations accountable.

Among our priority bills:
➡️ SB 1371 — Protecting Solid Waste Workers’ Right to Strike
➡️ AB 1776 — Taking on Corporate Monopolies
➡️ AB 1818 — Making CSU Honor Union Contracts

We got our priority bills through the Legislature. Now, they’re on Gov. Gavin Newsom’s desk awaiting his signature.

Together, 250,000 Teamsters across the Golden State will continue fighting to make sure working people are prioritized in Sacramento.

Help us win fair treatment for CSU workers by sending a letter to the Governor asking for his signature on AB 1818! ✊

AB 1818 restores fairness, accountability, and balance to the bargaining process by preventing The California State University from unilaterally cancelling contracts and reopening bargaining agreements with workers — even after agreements have been negotiated in good faith.

In the final days of the Legislative session, Assembly bill 1776 passed out of the Senate, sending the bill to the Governor’s desk.

Thank you Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry for championing this bill.

AB 1776, the COMPETE Act, will modernize our states anti-trust law to protect workers and consumers. AB 1776 aims to hold greedy companies accountable for stifling competition that suppresses workers wages and sky-rockets the cost of groceries, housing, gas and healthcare, that are already too high.

We are calling on Governor Newsom to sign AB 1776 to protect working families!
