🎓✨ Every year, we celebrate the youth in our program as they move on to their next grade level. We call this event Step Up and it brings together youth, families, Professional Mentors, and our community for a day filled with celebration, fun, and lots of encouragement.

This year’s celebration was extra special as we gathered in our new home. From certificates and games to face painting, arts and crafts, and plenty of smiles, it was a wonderful day celebrating the youth we serve and all they’ve accomplished.

🌿 Friends of the Children–SF Bay Area dedicated the Nancy Pelosi Garden For The Children on Friday, July 31, during a visit and event with Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi celebrating our permanent home in Bayview Hunters Point.

Speaker Emerita Pelosi joined Friends-SF leadership and staff, Board Members, Professional Mentors, youth, and supporters to commemorate the new outdoor gathering space, which will be designed with input from the youth we serve. The garden honors Speaker Emerita Pelosi’s longstanding commitment to children and families while creating a welcoming space where youth can gather, learn, play, and grow.

Speaker Pelosi’s support played a critical role in making our permanent home possible. In 2022, she secured a transformational $750,000 federal grant that supported Friends-SF’s purchase of our home at 4100 3rd Street.

The celebration also included a tour of our permanent home and a Cupcake Decorating Contest with youth and Professional Mentors. 🧁🌿

Ready to turn your passion for youth advocacy into a career with lasting impact? We're hiring Professional Mentors to join our team at Friends of the Children-SF Bay Area.

Our Professional Mentors support youth 1-to-1 from kindergarten through high school graduation, walking alongside them for 12+ years, no matter what. Through consistent support, encouragement, and advocacy, Mentors help young people discover their strengths, navigate challenges, and pursue their goals.

We're looking for someone who is passionate about youth development, committed to learning and growth, and excited to be part of a team dedicated to helping youth build resilience, overcome obstacles, and thrive.

💼 Full-time | Tuesday–Saturday
💰 Starting salary: $66,000 + excellent benefits
