Make no mistake: The birthright citizenship case before the Supreme Court is not some isolated policy debate. It’s part of a broader effort by the Trump administration to put an end to multiracial democracy as we know it, by making it harder for communities of color to live, work, study and build a life in the United States.

As a U.S. citizen, I grew up with freedoms and opportunities that my parents never had. I grew up with a sense of belonging no one could take away.

APALA stands in solidarity with the United Educators of San Francisco in their fight for the schools our communities deserve!  ✊️

We have APALA members who are out on strike or honoring the picket lines. We join in their demand for fully funded and staffed schools.

Today we honor , a fearless Filipino American labor leader whose vision and courage helped ignite the farmworker movement. His story reminds us of what is possible when communities come together for fairness and dignity on the job. We stand on the shoulders of giants like Manong (Ilocano for “elder brother”) Larry Itliong and through our own organizing and collective action, his fight for justice lives on.

Follow to support community efforts to reclaim Filipino American history and honor Larry Itliong’s contributions to the Labor Movement by renaming a pathway in Downtown San Jose, “Larry Itliong Way.”

It's ☀️✊️ and it is a critical time for the AANHPI community to participate in our democracy.

We joined the SF Labor Council the last couple weekends to get out the vote for in California! 🗳

We must pass it to protect our communities and our healthcare. Prop 50 gives voters the power to approve temporary maps and protect our future.

We share the terrible news of the passing of Kent Wong.

Our hearts grieve because we have all lost a friend, champion, mentor and ally. Kent touched so many lives – he made it his mission to uplift so many of us within the AANHPI communities and labor movement.

Kent was APALA’s founder as he spent tireless hours fighting for the space for APALA to exist, knitting together a coalition of AANHPI union members to form our first steering committee. He was APALA’s first president and in many ways he was our eternal president. We were so grateful to spend time with him at our most recent biennial convention where his boundless energy and bright smile met all of us. After eighteen consecutive conventions, Kent was as enthusiastic about APALA as he was in 1992 – finding true community in our ranks.

In the coming days we will share more information about honoring his legacy. For today, we ask our APALA family to hold Kent’s family in your hearts and remember his words to always fight for racial and economic justice in all that we do. Rest in power, Father.
