Punk turns 50, and we’re celebrating it!

NO PUNK. NO FUTURE. — opening September 10, 6 PM at the Goethe-Institut San Francisco.

An exhibition tracing the people, records, images, and networks that connected punk in San Francisco’s sister city Kiel, Germany with punk in the Bay Area.
The night starts with a conversation: NO
MORE’s Andy A. Schwarz and Tina Sanudakura meet Jack Boulware, author of „Gimme Something Better,“ on what the two scenes shared and what kept them distinct.
The exhibition shows Helmut Kunde’s Kiel photographs, Winston Smith album art, German record covers, and Frightwig drummer Cecilia Kuhn’s diary from touring Germany in 1985.

Drinks and snacks will be provided, thanks to Paulaner Sunset and Paulaner USA: German Brewer. Co-presented with Amoeba San Francisco. RSVPAmoeba San FranciscoPunk50

OH, THIS UNSPEAKABLE VOID — Simon Verhoeven’s 2026 tragicomedy about grief, growing up, and figuring out what role you actually play in your own life.

Starring Bruno Alexander, Senta Berger, Laura Tonke, and Devid Striesow. A bestseller by Joachim Meyerhoff brought to the screen: funny, devastating, and stays with you long after the credits roll.

We are in the world. For 75 years.

Since 1951, we have been bringing people together around the world through language, culture, and dialogue.

We believe in curiosity over easy answers, in dialogue over polarisation, and in closeness over distance.
With around 154 institutes in 100 countries, we create spaces for exchange, new perspectives, and mutual understanding.

This was true yesterday. It is true today. And it remains our promise for the future.

🎬 Madman. Monster. Murderer. Scientist. This week marks 50 years since Fritz Lang’s death.
We’re honoring the occasion with his 1933 thriller THE TESTAMENT OF DR. MABUSE — made as the N***s rose to power, and banned by them shortly after.
The premise: a criminal mastermind is somehow directing a crime wave from inside an insane asylum.
A detective is closing in. And the line between madness and mass hypnosis gets very, very thin.
Film director Fritz Lang fled Germany the same year this film came out. Watch it and you’ll see why the N***s didn’t want anyone else to.
Next Thursday, August 6, 2026, 6-8 PM. Link in bio to reserve🎟️
