Before and After in Khula, Malawi ❤️‍🔥

For years, students at Khula Primary School learned under trees or crowded into deteriorating shelters, where rain, heat, and a lack of proper toilets made it difficult to focus and attend school consistently. The addition of a new school block has changed that.

With support from Stanley Eisenberg, buildOn worked alongside the Khula community to build two new classrooms with desks and latrines. Local residents contributed an incredible 4,654 volunteer workdays, helping create a safer, more comfortable learning environment for the school's 502 students.

Today, students have classrooms where they can learn without sitting on the floor or worrying about lessons being interrupted by the weather. Built in solidarity with the Khula community and designed to last 100 years, this new block is creating space for students to learn and dream for generations to come. ❤️‍🔥

Learning about food access, putting it into practice. ❤️‍🔥

buildOn Chicago students spent the day learning about nutrition and the barriers that can make healthy food harder to access, then putting that learning into action by making salads and distributing food directly to unhoused community members in Pilsen.

Service starts with understanding your community, then showing up for it.

Before and After in Tawa Fall ❤️‍🔥

For years, children in Tawa Fall had no safe, accessible school of their own. The nearest school was too far away, and for many families, the journey was simply not an option. When the community finally established a school, students spent eight months learning in a makeshift classroom with too few desks, no blackboard, and little protection from the heat.

With support from Sarasota High School & Friends, buildOn worked alongside the people of Tawa Fall to build a permanent school. The community contributed 3,307 volunteer workdays, coming together to turn their first classroom into a school built to last 100 years.

Today, 53 students are learning in their new classrooms, with more children being enrolled. What began as a community's determination to give its children a place to learn is now a school that can serve generations to come. ❤️‍🔥

Before and After in PIprahiya, Nepal ❤️‍🔥

For years, students at Shree Baijanath Bidhya Niketan Basic School learned in classrooms that made it difficult to feel safe and comfortable. The school needed additional space, proper furniture, and facilities that could better support its students and teachers.

With support from the Martinson family, buildOn worked alongside the Piprahiya community to build a three-classroom school block, a two-room toilet facility, and new furniture. Local residents contributed 1,330 volunteer workdays, helping bring the project to life.

Today, 158 students are learning in safe, comfortable, and well-furnished classrooms. What started as a need for better facilities has become a school built to serve students for generations to come. ❤️‍🔥
