Volunteering comes in all shapes and sizes to suit all skills, ages, and energy. Ultimately, however you choose to show up, your participation helps create something greater than the sum total of its parts — and a little bit magic.
In our latest Burning Man Journal post, meet Black Rock citizens who volunteer for Lamplighters and Greeters, and learn how getting involved deepened their sense of purpose and connection far beyond the playa.

Volunteer crews are recruiting now and YOU can get involved! Read the post to learn more.

These 2026 Honoraria artworks are bringing ancestral knowledge and living traditions to Black Rock City this August.

"Aikido: The Mothership Connection," a 32-foot Afrofuturist totem, arrives on playa honoring African stories through a fusion of ancestral tribute and visions of the future.

From Valencia, Spain, "CORREFOC" channels the spirit of Las Fallas, inviting participants into a dance with fire rooted in centuries of tradition.

Originating in the mountains of Colombia, "ALUNA: The Frequency of Being" blends Tayrona symbolism with technology, allowing participants to alter vibrations that reveal patterns within living water.

From New Zealand, "Headwaters" offers a bamboo meditation labyrinth inspired by Mount Kailash, the sacred Tibetan axis mundi.

Applications for the 2027 Temple Grant Program close June 4 at 5pm PDT.
The Black Rock City Temple Grant Program is one of the most significant art grants funded by the Burning Man Project Art department. The Temple is an ephemeral structure created annually at the Burning Man event in Black Rock City. It serves as a sacred, communal space for contemplation, reflection, celebration and remembrance before its ceremonial release by fire at the culmination of the event.

Burning Man Project invites artists, architects, designers, builders, and interdisciplinary teams to submit proposals for the 2027 Temple.

Learn more and apply before the deadline.

If you thrive on the grit, the dust, and the beautiful chaos of building a city from scratch in the open desert, you belong with the Department of Public Works (DPW).

DPW is the backbone of Black Rock City. Ask any crew member — the experience IS the reward. You’re working hard alongside some of the most interesting people you’ll ever meet and playing hard when the shift ends like you've earned it. As a DPW member, you get to live the version of Burning Man that most people never get to see. It’s a golden ticket to the carnival, paid for in heart and sweat.

> Choose your Adventure <
The DPW Roustabouts: Go where the work is! we need skilled hands — and those who want to become skilled — to help build the city. Commitments vary from 2-9 weeks and yes, your ticket and meals are part of the reward.

DPW Crews: Not everyone wields hammers out there. DPW needs fuel attendants, dispatchers, drivers, LNT support, data trackers, and even some paid managerial roles and heavy equipment operators! There are many ways to contribute to building a city out of nothing.

Are you ready to join this dusty carny crew?

See Burning Man through the eyes of an evolutionary biologist. What happens when modern humans are stripped of everyday societal rules and dropped into the dust? Is Black Rock City a glimpse at the future of human evolution, or are we just reverting to our primal roots?

Listen to the latest Burning Man LIVE podcast episode, then drop your theories below. 🐒🔥

Burning Man illuminates so much of the greatest aspects of human behavior. But also for me in particular Burning Man is not just like an answer, but more importantly, an open question, a question that asks "What is our human nature? How is human nature expressed under different conditions?" And once...

Through play, we evolve, experiment, and indulge our curiosity to invoke new possibilities. Burning Man is a container for that process, where art transforms play into connection.

“Purrmaid” and “Brews 12 v Uno: cLOUD OF WIT-nesses” may appear whimsical, but beneath the playfulness sits something more reflective. Nearby, “Disco Mushroom,” “Compost Playground,” and “The Race of Hearts” invite all to climb, play, discover, and connect.

Together, these installations explore how a shared sense of wonder can bring people closer together.

The Ticket Aid Program helps participants on a limited income access reduced-price tickets so more people can take part in the art, wonder, experiments, and communal effort that shape the city each year. Support from higher-priced ticket purchases helps make programs like this possible.
Because the city becomes far more interesting when more kinds of people can help imagine it into existence.

Applications are now open 🍄
