Thank you to KQED for partnering with us on a sold-out Birthright Citizenship walking tour this past weekend, and to everyone who joined!

Together, we explored landmark cases like Yick Wo v. Hopkins and Tape v. Hurley—uncovering how Chinese immigrants fought back against exclusion and surveillance to reshape the U.S. Constitution.

The group also got a sneak peek of the stunning new Wong Kim Ark mural by Twin Walls and Vogue, commissioned by CHSA (Chinese Historical Society of America), celebrating the community that took the U.S. government to the Supreme Court and won birthright citizenship for generations to come.

CCC remains rooted in this fight and committed to ensuring our stories are never erased. Our Chinatown History and Art Tour offers an immersive, place-based learning opportunity exploring the art, history, community activism, and resilience of Chinatown, welcoming over 1,500 learners year-round.

✨Congratulations to our very own Christine Wong Yap on being honored as Arts and Culture Leader by the Office of Civic Engagement & Immigrant Affairs of San Francisco during Immigrant Heritage Month! 👏👏👏

It was grounding and hopeful to see Christine, whose work amplifies immigrant voices through community-driven art, recognized among such visionary leaders:

🏆 Champion of Justice: Cecillia Wang, National Legal Director of the ACLU 🏆 Entrepreneur Leaders: Bini Pradhan (Bini’s Kitchen) and Miguel Escobedo (Al Pastor Papi) 🏆 Grassroots Leader: Bushra Tanaka Alabsi 🏆 Youth Leadership: Ernesto Cuellar 🏆 Special Recognitions: Mission Local and Vera Haile.

Last Monday’s ceremony was poignant, powerful, and deeply rooted in Chinatown, home to landmark cases like Yick Wo v. Hopkins and United States v. Wong Kim Ark, which established birthright citizenship and expanded America’s democracy on these very streets.

Cecillia Wang—who argued before the Supreme Court to defend birthright citizenship under the Fourteenth Amendment—reminded us that this fight is not new.

As we celebrate Immigrant Heritage Month, during a time when immigrants are under threat, CCC, along with our artists and fellow leaders, remains committed to this work, in community and in solidarity.

Chinatown Arts Ecosystem in Bloom—a Reason to Give in May

Amid ongoing threats to our cultural institutions, CCC is building a lasting ecosystem to support Asian American artists, our history, and our culture in San Francisco.

🎉 Chinatown Media and Arts Collaborative (CMAC) announced the purchase of the Empress of Chinatown building!

• Keeps Asian American history and creativity in our neighborhood for generations to come

• Important to CCC’s (founding member of CMAC) mission to ensure our community’s stories are told on our own terms

🖼️ CCC and Edge on the Square brought 大大膽 Da Da Daam to the San Francisco Art Fair!

• Brought together Asian diasporic artists whose practices were forged in and shaped by our neighborhood

• A powerful weekend celebrating Chinatown and Asian American arts for tens of thousands of visitors

🤝 After a decade of advocacy, CCC worked with the SF Arts Commission to bring the Chinatown Artist Registry to life!

• Transforms how public art gets made in this neighborhood by centering artists with meaningful ties to it

• 7 new art commissions are in process across Portsmouth Square, the Chinatown Public Health Center, and the Chinatown Public Library

This month, we celebrate AAPI Heritage by remaining steadfast in our long-term investment in artists and community. Your support and partnership is critical to realizing this dream.

We are proud to celebrate the legacy of Wesley Tongson, whose work is being honored in major solo exhibitions in Taipei and Hong Kong.

Now nearly a decade later, Wesley is internationally recognized, with work in the collections of the Berkeley Art Museum, Hong Kong Museum of Art, M+ Museum for Visual Culture, USC Pacific Asia Museum, and the MK Lau Collection.

Chinatown is the place for innovation—uplifting and elevating the great artists of our time.
