This year, Brazil is hosting the UN Climate Change Conference in Belém (the northern Amazon). For the first time ever, there’s a Special Envoy for the Ocean: Marinez Scherer, who is working closely with the COP30 Presidency and civil society. 🌊

🌊 We’re back at the heart of the action at the International Seabed Authority’s 30th session and ready to make youth voices heard on the future of the deep sea!

🗂️ Right now, States are negotiating the draft exploitation regulations at the International Seabed Authority’s 30th session. Sustainable Ocean Alliance is on the ground again, voicing youth priorities and pushing for precaution, protection, and science-based decisions.

🌏 This session, we’re proud to have our Regional Rep for Asia, MJ Lamoste (), on-site for the first time, joining our delegation — along with the return of Eugénia Barroca (), Regional Rep for Lusophonia and Europe!

📅 The Council is debating a new timeline to finalize the exploitation regulations — but we oppose rushed deadlines driven by industry pressures, not science or precaution.

🔜 Next week, the Assembly begins. Together with Jamie Gonçalves from and our first Regional Rep from Africa, Forbie Perise (), we’re continuing the fight to protect the seabed as the common heritage of humankind.
