This past summer, Molly Myers documented Camp life as Tawonga’s blogger and photographer. With a background in journalism and four years of experience as a local reporter in Chico, Molly captured the essence of our unique, loving culture with particular nuance and care.

"Documenting Camp, I couldn't help but get a little jealous," shared Molly. "These kids are having such a good time! It was a joy to capture their experience, and join in on the fun every now and then."

Thanks to months of listening, reflection, and collaboration across our community, Tawonga's Search Committee is thrilled to share the job description for Tawonga's next CEO.

Since our last update, DRG, our search partner, has reviewed survey responses representing every corner of the Tawonga community and held listening sessions with Tawonga’s Board of Directors, past board members, past CEOs, current and former year-round staff, and recent summer staff.

We’re excited to share our 2027 summer dates and program lineup, thoughtfully designed around what we know makes a Tawonga summer so special: being together.

For summer 2027, we are returning to a classic four-session model with no shorter embedded sessions inside longer ones.

While there’s a new rhythm to the schedule, there’s plenty that will feel wonderfully familiar. The 2027 program lineup builds on the successes of many years of Tawonga summer programming – the adventures, traditions, joyous Judaism, and unplugged communal time in the mountains that have helped generations of campers discover their own special version of the magic.

Often, we think of “nature” as land that is untouched by humans; maybe the word “wilderness” comes to mind, or the idea of “leave no trace.”

This past summer, Jo, teva specialist, was committed to helping campers rethink this divide between “us” and “nature.” A big part of our programming is centered around exploring Indigenous land practices; on Tawonga’s land, that means looking at Sierra Miwuk traditions. There is a natural resonance here with Jewish teachings, too. Judaism asks us to see ourselves not as separate from the earth, but as part of it and responsible to it. Even the Hebrew words for human and earth, adam and adamah, share a root.

At Teva, we explore what it means to put that relationship into practice, while learning from the Indigenous people who have cared for this land for generations.

What a night! Thanks to the many Tawongans who came out for the Oakland Ballers' Bay Mitzvah! This celebration of Jewish culture kicked off with a first pitch from our very own Aaron Mandel, followed by serenading throughout the game from Isaac Zones and Devin Leslie. Yasher koach Tawonga alums and Ballers leaders Yeshayah Goldfarb and Bryan Carmel – way to represent, Camp T!
