🚨 STATEMENT ON SFUSD ENROLLMENT POLICY REFORM 🚨

The SFUSD Board of Education recently omitted Option A (Small Zones + Citywide Programs) from enrollment reform, claiming a lack of district "capacity."

Option A was widely analyzed as the model that best balanced equity, geographic proximity, and system coherence. Equity must dictate district capacity—not administrative convenience.

By forcing a binary choice between Unrestricted Open Choice (Option B) and Single Neighborhood Defaults (Option C), the district risks deepening segregation and severely impacting our priority student groups:

🔹 Special Education (SPED): Compromised access to IEP-mandated services and grueling commutes.

🔹 Foster Youth: Disrupted mid-year transfers and complex lottery barriers.

🔹 English Learners (ELs): Loss of language immersion proximity and severe informational barriers.

Furthermore, removing key equity pathways without prior community co-design directly violates SOFG Guardrail 1 (Effective Decision-Making).

We call on the Board to re-establish community co-design standards and release side-by-side impact data before any final vote.

📢 Policy Update: Leading Strategic Equity Enrollment at SFUSD

🗓️ Tuesday, Oct 13 @ 6:30 PM Ahead of the SFUSD Board meeting, Parents for Public Schools of San Francisco (PPS-SF) continues its leadership in strategic equity enrollment by grounding key district decisions in concrete accountability measures.

Before SFUSD alters enrollment policies—which risk driving further racial and socioeconomic segregation—or renews charter petitions that draw students and critical resources away from district schools, leadership must commit to the policy goals we presented directly to Board Commissioners:

🎯 Category 1: Address Equity & System CoherenceRe-anchor policy in systemic equity, set measurable KPIs for demographic balance, and establish strict IT ex*****on milestones for enrollment systems.
📊 Category 2: Evaluate Policy Trade-OffsRequire data-driven comparisons, transparent diversity guardrails to mitigate poverty concentration, and full impact reporting on school and program conversions.
🗣️ Category 3: Establish Community Co-Design & Engagement StandardsCondition policy decisions on representative data from Black, Latino, low-income, and non-English-speaking families, and institutionalize formal community co-design in boundary mapping.
