We’re excited to partner with Josh Johnson for his six San Francisco shows at The Masonic, August 28–30.

All weekend long, we’ll be collecting new school supplies, backpacks, and books to support San Francisco children facing homelessness and poverty.

If you’re heading to a show, bring an item with you and stop by the Urban Angels SF table to say hello. And if you can’t bring a physical donation, we’ll have QR codes available so you can give right from your phone. Even $5 helps us put more resources directly into the hands of local kids.

We’re incredibly grateful to Josh and his team for inviting Urban Angels SF to be part of the weekend and for helping bring our mission to thousands of people across San Francisco.

Every child deserves more than a strong first day. They deserve the support to keep going when school gets harder.

Urban Angels SF works alongside children and families facing homelessness and poverty in San Francisco, providing the books, tutoring, school supplies, parent mentoring, and community support that help children stay connected to learning throughout the year.

Urban Angels SF’s Youth Ambassador Corps gives young people the opportunity to create and carry out charitable projects that support San Franciscans facing hardship.

They gain leadership experience, earn verified service hours, and turn their time and ideas into work that matters beyond a résumé.

Some children grow up surrounded by books.

Others may not have one book they can call their own.

That difference matters.

Books give children more chances to practice reading, build vocabulary, ask questions, develop confidence, and imagine a future beyond their daily circumstances.

Through Books for Keeps and our Library Program, Urban Angels SF helps put books within reach for children who need them most.

The first day of school matters.

But what happens after that matters just as much.

Nearly half of San Francisco third graders are not reading at grade level. For children facing poverty, homelessness, or language barriers, the gap can be even wider.

That is why Urban Angels SF’s work continues beyond Backpacks of Love.

Through our tutoring program, students receive consistent academic support that helps them build literacy skills, confidence, and momentum throughout the year.

Backpacks help children start prepared. Tutoring helps them keep going.

This was never just about backpacks.

It was about helping children walk into school feeling prepared, included, and seen.

Thank you to every donor, volunteer, partner, and supporter who helped make Backpacks of Love possible. Because of you, San Francisco students will begin the school year with the supplies they need and the reminder that their community believes in them.

We are so grateful for everyone who gave, shared, packed, encouraged, and showed up.

Back-to-school season is one moment. Our work continues all year.

School starts soon, and 50 San Francisco children are still waiting for the supplies they need to walk into the classroom feeling prepared and included.

A $40 donation provides one student with a backpack filled with school essentials. We have already raised $38,000 toward our $40,000 goal. Now, we need your help to close the final gap.
